Ted leaving RED?

Nothing is more important than family. And it's not something you can put off easily.

I enjoyed talking to Ted early on at a Cinegear or two. At least once he was walking about near the entrance to the auditorium at the Veterans site in Westwood, showing off a camera with great energy, enthusiasm and friendliness. He was so approachable.

Direct silver lining? Red has a fantastic inside contact at Apple again!

In 2007 when I was seriously considering investing several thousand of $s in this then relatively unknown company called RED there were 3 things that assured me that investing in a RED ONE was the right thing to do.

1) Jim and Jared's reduser posts which gave me confidence that this was a company that was hungry and had conviction I could get behind.

2) The Peter Jackson "Crossing the Line" which showed this camera was the real deal.

3) Ted's interviews all over the web that year which really embodied the excitement behind RED and what they were doing.

Simply put Ted is a great communicator.

His knowledgeable yet conversational approach really helped tear down the walls of skepticism that even I sort of had back then.

I feel comfortable in saying that Ted is easily up there with Steve Jobs as a showman who could make the most complex technology presentation exciting to even a layperson.

As RED was never known to advertise much I don't doubt that Ted's ubiquity was quite integral in helping RED sell many cameras around the world particularly to the early adopters.

Sad to see him go but like everyone I wish him the best.

He can leave knowing that he was front and center during one of the most critical technological movements in film history.
