  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Surprise...

Jonathan, there were several shots made by RED cameras presented in this reel. As you could feel from feedbacks on people in this topic, those shots were... well... deadlock for film. Phenomenal, georgeous and similar words pop up. I personally didn't like sarcastic humor at the end of reel "vote / don't vote", but nonetheless it was done absolutely profesionally from technical point of view.

Although you have only ~5kB/s transfer speeds, I highly recommend you to download it. This file is 469,823,219 bytes long what means that with speed of approximately 5000 bytes per second it will take you 93964 seconds = 26 hours to download. I know it's too much, sounds terrific and it will limit your internet browsing experience (it will be even slower while downloading than it is now) but it's weekend and YOU REALLY REALLY WANT TO HAVE IT.

edit : Jonathan, I sent you private message. Check it please.

great reel!

i am missing the "ladies in parachutes" kosmos provided a link a couple of months ago
;-)

Please tell me the Scarlet S35 has the potential to deliver these results. Forget it, I'm sold. I hope to be able to get a Scarlet S35 package, a Red Prime and RED ROCKET for 12k. Please, Red Team. Make this possible!

This is a great way to prove to clients whats possible :thumbsup:

Ok just watched it.. The aliasing on the Redlogo and the credits is not great.

so my question is did you not oversample alot in order to keep the sharpness up? or was it a time thing?

Love it :) going onto the AppleTV now :)

thanks again..

> The aliasing on the Redlogo and the credits is not great.

ok, and there are some more - there is a lot of noise at 00:51 for example, but as already said : we know nothing about source of these materials. For example, the logo could be heavily upsampled from some miserable source because no original was handy when this was processed at road etc. Not just we know nothing about source material and RAW from camera, but we know nothing about color processing and that stuff.

Noise at 00:51? Oh yes, there's plenty of! But what about clean picture at 03:07 which was taken in much inferior conditions and STILL is much cleaner, almost noise free? Yes, there are some very light compression artefacts in very dark parts of STILL FRAME at 03:07, but that is somehow expected when compressing 700:1, maybe even 1000:1... and all-in-all, it's invisible on movie just still frames show it. What about the shots in water at 03:24? GEORGEOUS!

Take into consideration, please, that this is not RedRay material - this is AVC1 codec MOV file, 720p 23.976fps and we know nothing how it got to AVC1 from RedRay. Also, consider THE BITRATE please!! How the hell is 7-10Mbit/s variable looking?

To sum that all up : on average, it is JUST GREAT.

Not to sound irritating, but how in the wide world can this be a surprise? A surprise is a brief emotional state that is the result of experiencing an unexpected relevant event... hmm we already knew this was gonna' happen, they even asked for the material, if anything this must be a treat of some kind. Sure it looks good, but again who in here ever had a doubt about the Red One and it's possibilities?

Great. Congrats to all who's footage I just watched. As for the camera, looks amazing! Gorgeous.

Clearly a scam. Vaporware.

I was the d.i.t for the shootings of the first two close-up of the eye at the beginning of the video and I didn't know they were in the red's showreel! What a surprise!

Maybe off-topic, but... several people mentioned putting this file on their PS3. I'd like to do that too since my laptop screen is much smaller than my TV. But my PS3 does not recognize MOV files, and it never has. It does see and play .MP4 and .m2t files just fine. Is there some setting I have wrong? Are people transcoding this, or extracting it into a MP4 container?

My PS3 is not networked; I transfer files to the PS3 using a USB memory stick, if that matters. Maybe there was a firmware update to enable MOV playback?

In Quicktime Pro, just export using passthrough encoding to put it in an mp4 wrap with no alteration. Takes a second.

So that's what my RED ONE is capable of eh? Thanks a lot, now I just feel plain stupid. ;)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. I definitely need to take my work up a notch or two after seeing the reel. Hehehe.... :sifone:
