I wanted to attract the attention of RED QC to the fact that some parts of RED hardware are coming with alternative (not as shown on the RED store website) method of anodizing.
This type of anodizing is prone to scratches and greasy spots done just by touching, that is very difficult to remove. After a few month of use it will look like set of fire place tools.

Correct me if I am wrong, since I am judging looking on the good quality pictures from unpacking thread.

But if it is what I think it is, then you better call your subcontractor to stop saving on anodizing process.

troubling. Have you taken delivery and noticed this?

No just visited this web

If it is this acid anodizing technique that I am thinking about then I will re do it all over myself or send back to RED for replacement.
Unless it is some kind of new way of anodizing that I don’t know about.
But I see already scratches on the quick plate and stains on the bracket, I hope it is not this treatment that I hate.

THAT SUCKS!
Im totally not cool with that.

Remember the new parts are cast and thus will take anodizing diffrently than machined parts. This is where the finish comes from.

Andrew,

you got #906 already?

No not yet but expecting in two weeks or so, like delivery of the baby, 9 months and expecting any time:-)

Obin, when you touch these alternate finish parts with your hands slightly sweaty, does it leave the stain?

So if it is cast why bracket cost $200? should be $25

Yeah I am really not happy with the quality of the Red accessory parts. I had to put washers on many of bolts to prevent the screws from scuffing the parts. I puchased the ET top cheese plate and that had a MUCH nicer finish than the red parts.

I already see it in Elcurado shot stains and scratches on the bracket.

But I checked some parts here that are made from cast and it is not the thing I was warry about. Stains less but it is prone to scratches.

you posted this before but I don't understand why.

they don't make all the parts red makes, such as the bottom plate, the 19mm top mounts the quick plate etc.... its not an easy solution at all.

also, why should I have to go to another company to get my stuff when red has a good solution that just need to be finished properly.

I noticed this too. I have one top mount that is nice anodized black, hard finish. I have one top mount that is ghetto flat black. Cradle is nice. Quickplate is ghetto.
A little disappointing, but whatever.
Cheers,
Harry

the first thing I saw when I opened the bag to my long awaited camera was the front red logo stuck to the side of the bag instead of the camera.

i also have stuff missing from my order that was not backordered. frustrating.

I forgot to order my other top mount(idiot) but i have a feeling it will be different than the one that comes with the base production pack. Many flat black parts all around.

overall this is really exciting it just makes me a little weary of what else might pop up. i know the red team is new at this and are doing well considering.

The difference between cast and machined goes a bit deeper than the finish.

Finner is just suggesting an alternative... Most of us who have used ET's gear think it's very good.

Yes ET does make all the parts needed and even a few more.

If you like the red stuff buy it as the cheaper option.

The complaining by people here about this is very funny to me. It is like a person buying a Hyundai and being pissed because it does not have the quality of a mercedes. Kind of silly.

ET makes "arri" quality accessories at a fraction of arri prices for those that want that level of quality. For those that don't red has some good accessories but thinking the $1,200 production pack should be top grade "arri" cine quality is madness.

I have lots o ET stuff and they have done a great job. Stephen is a great guy. I plan to buy more. Although there are some things ET hasn't made or not yet at least.

I also don't think it is fair to say we are expecting Mercedes quality at Hyundai prices. It's just inconsistent. Some of the same parts are done better and worse.
