Success is very hard to define.

I look at it as setting stupidly high goals and then beating them. Then setting higher goals still...

One of our goals was to put cinema-worthy cameras in the hands of many. Pros. Students. Check.

We also wanted to create a tool that the best in the industry would use on the biggest and most important projects. Projects that showed we belonged alongside the best image capture devices ever made. Check.

RED cameras, mostly EPICs in the past 2+ years, are responsible for over $7B worldwide box office. That includes 3 movies that have done over $1B each.

The cameras that did this now cost roughly $20K... and are upgradeable. When we entered the arena... film and digital cameras were well over $200K.

While we have missed the mark on many things... our big picture vision has been pretty good so far.

Just imagine (for a moment) that we are fully engaged in fixing what we have not been so good at. Remember that we are just a 7 year old...

We accept that you expect more from us. We expect more from us.

In the meantime... go shoot something that exceeds your personal expectations. You have the right tool.

Jim,

My long-time dream was to be able to make undistorted underwater images with the highest resolution possible corner to corner. The state of the art in the industry wasn't even close to high definition. Even IMAX cameras could not and still can not do better than standard definition away from the centre of the frame.

And, almost exactly one year ago my dream was fulfilled: in 2D and in 3D. It would not have been possible if not for RED Epic.

It was the RED Epic that facilitated the change.

The foresight of making exchangable lens mount combined with amazing 4k and 5k imaging capability allowed me to take the RED revolution underwater. For the first time we can shoot undistorted and sharp 4k and 5k images from corner to corner. This is not possible with any other camera, not Nikon, not Canon, not Sony...not even IMAX....none of those can get even high definition quality across the frame underwater.

So, your success is also mine! Thank you!

I'm happy as a pig in the mud :)

Thank you Jim for doing what you do best. If it wasn't for you and the rest of the team I don't think their would be as many undergraduates looking for a career in filming as their is now.

Success is for those who can keep moving the ball. :-) Cheers Jim, let's play on!

To reach a sort of full success Dragon would need just about two stops more of DR and new rebuild colour management a.k.a. colour science.

That's all.

Your terms are easily met.

Inspired! Equipped with passion, discipline, knowledge and this amazing piece of technology...my vision is now truly without bounds. Thanks Jim and the entire RED team for creating the tools I've been searching for to unleash my wildest dreams. A big thanks from one of your new battle tested R1 guys.

In my eyes success would not mean anything without love and passion. Every time I hold this little tool in my hands I can feel this love and passion and it makes me happy to use it. (Sure, I had some issues too, but I experienced the Red Tech support as top notch).
I will happily follow what´s going on here in the future. In the meantime I have to try to get as good as my tool already is!

A few years ago, I started seriously looking into cameras to start filming my own stuff. All the HD cameras were cool to me. Being able to shoot 1080p was big for me, being right out of high school. Once I started looking into it more, the more I realized I didn't like the idea of these different compression schemes, I didn't like the fixed lenses, and I didn't like the price tags. After discovering RED and watching over the years, I've seen my biggest hopes coming true. 4k footage, RAW, interchangeable lenses, small form factor, and a constantly dropping price. With all of those factors in mind, I'm seeing my own personal opportunity to purchase one of my own slowly creaping up, and the chance to give my personal projects what they deserve in my eyes.

Thanks Jim and the whole RED team for bringing my dreams within reach. I'm looking forward to meeting you guys at NAB and for the journey ahead. Keep up the amazing work.

Great news

So any news about the Red Center in Germany ?

Kristin

What about them?
They are fully operational and as far as I know they also have a technician for repairs since february.
Had to let my two Scarlets repaired and they were very fast and responsive. Great guys.

Don't forget to add that your success has contributed to our success.

I might be speaking for a lot of your customers when I say thank you.

but I'll say it sincerely from myself:

thanks for putting you success in our hands and making it affordable. I'm sure it's just the tip of the iceberg.

Every time I hit rec and record raw, it still makes me smile, knowing i'm capturing an image that will last and get better.

Cool! Wish I can use dragons for my indie movie in later May for S3D+48FPS+4K.

Thanks Chef,
The passion for this camera be indescribable, indescribable as being what you guys do.

Jim still an effort. This be your year "NOW".

RED TEAM is time to free up the big RED DRAGON ;)

The RED EPIC has had and continues to have a great impact in my life, and it will have even more in the months to come... Your success is partially responsible for my small joys in image capturing, while I await my moment of success with my first film captured on RED EPIC, my absolute most favorite camera ever, and not because we love RED and you guys, but because it has it ALL, and soon will have even more...

I believe for having the right tool for the job, and I DO, now if all else fails it's only my fault.

Jim, Jarred & Team RED -- I believe many of us know how little sleep many of you get working so hard on this. Fair enough, but and I will be called a fan-boy -- you have killed it in the new world of digital capture. The Epic, soon to be Dragon is so freaking sexy. I for one am grateful I had such an amazing tool to film the likes of Jessica Chastain and Laura Linney.

As far as I'm concerned your greatest success is the universal opportunity for people like me to do it my way. Fortunately I've been able to get my cameras which are the starting point. For others that may still be a goal not yet achieved but within reach.

I've never really understood others on the forum comparing this camera and that camera against the R-1, the Scarlet, and the Epic (except in cases where another camera fits a specific need better.) To me, that is a waste of precious time that could be spent using a RED camera.

I think your greatest success will be the content that is yet to come, some of which may strike a chord that will change how people think.
