  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Stuttering LCD?

Damn... foiled again!

That said, I've had the RED DRIVE mount on a MacBook Pro and Mac Pro directly to a FW800 port or through an external [albeit powered] FW800 drive.

So it works... but my mistake.

Hmm, about to try it!

yeah it works Brook most of the time... thats just not the proper way to do it.

An interesting side-note to my first use of the Red-Drive, no matter how tight I screwed in the side-screws, the Red-Drive still freely slid in and out. Am I missing something?

known issue Shawn that we are working on :)

Gaff-tape to the rescue!

i had a red drive connected via firewire 400 to my macbook (NOT pro) without external power supply of the drive and i could copy the files without problems.

why is it not recommended?

martin

because its power draw is on the edge of the firewire spec.. so your drive could suddenly drop off and not be seen, requiring a reboot to show up again.

The good thing though, is like you, Brook, and most others its usually not a problem... but it could happen, which why its a good idea to plug it in.

Lim,
You will essentially get fewer compression artifacts in the blacks, more information in hues. It's very tough to tell the difference IMHO even when pushing the image pretty hard. (all this based on some testing)

So if you are having throughput issues with your media then wise man say Redcode28 serve you well.

ours does not have this issue...maybe fixed in the later shipments of the production pack?

My cradle definitely has this issue. I figured at some point this weekend I'd go to the outdoor sports store and get a velcro strap as a stopgap.
Cheers,
Harry

I'm glad I don't have this cradle issue.
