  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

STORM by The Foundry

SO does this mean that STORM on a mac avoids quicktime and therefore avoids apple gamma?

If you stay in RAW, you don't have to worry. But as soon as you transcode to QT, then some inconsistency might appear, but I'm pretty sure TF would know how to handle that properly.

thanks peter for a great demo video. loved it!

Hey Chris,

This is what we have been waiting for and soon we will be able to provide the tutorial clips.

Really - all the thanks should be directed at The Foundry. Their team has turned this idea into a real-world solution in such a record time (less then 8 months), I am truly amazed! Everyone was saying the demos were great, but it was not me. Anyone who went through RED post workflow on real productions will make a great and enthusiastic demo presentation. Cliche's aside - this SW does demo itself...

Well I still think you did a great job at explaining the way the SW works. Thank you for that.
What does your ideal RAW workflow now look like?

If I have b-roll from another cam can it go on the timeline with the R3D's?

btw - thx kaku for answering my earlier question

Are you working for/with the Foundry?
Does your post mean yes or no to my question?
Is this a guess or do you know for sure?

Yes I am on the Storm Dev team and have worked with them for the past couple years on Nuke and the plugins as well.

Storm V1 will be RED import support only.
On the export side of things you should see all your flavors you are used to DPX,EXR,QT etc.

Hello Jim,

Great have you here. Thank you for taking care of Peter at IBC.

Thanks for clarification!

I get the feeling from your answer that one day this might be possible?
(having non-R3D footage on the timeline as well)

Jim,

Yeah I know, the STORM is a great naming. I'm going to name my compnay as "Thunder" next time.

J Davis, if you read or watch the STORM demo, it says on the second large update will include the support for other cams.

@Kaku. Now that you mention it I remember hearing someone(Peter maybe) say that during the vid.
I guess in my enthusiasm I got confused and forgot.

@Jim, sorry I doubted who you were as there is often too much noise here. Great job on the dev, to you and the whole team.

And thanks once again to both of you for taking the time to answer. I'm really blown away and excited to work with Storm.
Also I have a million and one questions and feature requests covering everything from sub frame audio editing to psds and tiffs on timeline,
to checksum for r3d copying to vignettes on the hsl secondary!

I'll hold off on my barrage of questions till the product arrives.

My pleasure.

Okay, so after listening to the last Redcentre, I am very excited about getting this product.

How soon will it be released for PC?? Do we have dates?

how does it get metadata into AVID projects? sorry if this has been covered.

Version 1.0 is FCP only. But avid is on the road-map.

Of course FCP is not the only thing that can read FCP XML, so anything else that can read that will be able to talk to Storm at a basic level at least.
