  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So they shoot wide screen then crop...

Hmph.... interesting.

Flexible... some people shoot the Wide format (specially in 5K) to get the maximum frame rate.

Neat. Seems like there's a real push for DSMC to penetrate the print world even more. I'm really curious how Scarlet is going to sneak into my stills workflow. Got some ideas and it's inspiring to see what others are doing and have done.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I think this is a good place for it.

Perhaps the biggest problem for still photography (unless you're in the studio on AC power) is the idle battery life. Tonaci reported 35 minutes, baaaaarely better than battery life while active.

I'm not saying I need the weeks (literally) that an idle D3s will last, but having to keep the camera off and wait for a 10-second boot-up every time I want to capture one or two frames is going to be crazy frustrating.

Better power management in stills mode is something that deserves some attention.

Thanks for posting Jarred. I'm sure to use a similar workflow on upcoming gigs.

Don't worry Lee... you are seeing it the worst it will be, as power management is not in the firmware yet.

Not to mention that there are RedVolt XLs coming to the pipe still if I'm not mistaken. Which should increase run time per single battery to 90 minutes without power management.

Excellent that you have better power managment in the pipeline Jarred; that's important for many of us. You can get fancy later, but just a very low power wake-on-button-push sleep mode would help for now... the sub ten second boot is great compared to R1 but still limiting.

I'd also like to see proper DSLR stills-type auto bracketing as an option... HDRx is awesome for cinema work, but for stills I relish the thought of being able to bang off a +3 +2 +1 0 -1 -2 -3 bracket sequence, at varying frame rates, anything from 120fps to 1fps depending on the degree of motion blur I want in the 'tradional' HDR stills workflow finished product.

Please tell us that will be possible in due time?

Mike

Niiice. Can't wait to make some still/motion of my own with that grey camera
