  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Steven Sebring " Emily " Shot on Epic-M Monochrome

I would be very grateful to whoever could let us, redusers, have a 1 frame monochrome R3D file to experiment and see pure 5K Mysterium X 2000 iso pixels with our own eyes... Rawer raw

This is really just unbelievable news. Thanks entire RED team. Kudos and congratulations for this incredible achievement and for a job well done. Just terrific. Life is best shot on RED, which is an extension of not just your soul or even just mine, but for all the souls everywhere. Great work, Jim. Thanks everyone. I just want to say how amazing this is.

As much as I love women in girdles and nylons, it seems peculiar that I would feel so compelled to compliment the fidelity of the footage, but that looks incredible. Kudos to you and RED for monochrome Epic-M.

Oh and stunning talent :-)

PS... as black and white cameras go. You have nailed it, stunning image.
Alas, I cannot say the same. It was well shot, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't 'special'. However, my underpowered computer cannot display HD video very well. Perhaps I needed to see it in 720?

Edit: Did I say how absolutely amazing that woman is? Oh, boy...

The face shots that were properly exposed looked amazing. I wasn't a fan of the rest, too washed out for my taste.
I agree with that. Too high-key and over-exposed. The contrast was not hard enough. Actually even the R1 handles blown highlights nicely, unlike a lot of still cameras.

I do love b&w and I am considering a Leica M Monochrom... However, I'm told that even the b&w JPEGs from the M9 are very good. But the MM does very well at 10,000 ISO. There's a beautiful, fine granularity. I'd love to compare the RED with the Leica.

A review of the MM, part 2 of 3 by Thorsten Overgaard (scroll down to see ISO from 1,600 to 10,000):

She got her grandmas clothes from that thrift shop down the road.
