Hello Guys !

Finally my shooting in Paris was just cancelled, but it is moved to another day within the next two weeks...
So I'm not sure at all to be at L'Aigle office on monday, but soon...

Cheers

That's a pity. Did you moved the date or did L'Aigle? I get many pms by users who are looking to purchase within the next week. And to be quite honest, I'm also quite relieved when this group buy is over, since it's quite time consuming:smile:

Quentin had the good idea of making a list to compare the pros and cons of the ProLine and the L'Aigle rig.

Please add comments on this list in this thread and I'll add them to it.

L'Aigle

+ Latex system is silent
+ warranty (2 years for everytihing and 10 years for latex)
+ Experience (10 years in the market)
+ Made in France
+ vastly improved over last version, i.e. easy tension adjustment via knobs (see reviews on HomeBuiltStabilizers and NAB2009 article which I posted earlier)
+ Cables can be run through the pole, so it's an open system

+/- double V-mount / AB-mount battery plate
+/- Payload adjustments from 4kg to 12kg / 8.8lbs to 26.4lbs
+/- trolley suitcase with three compartments

- arm is mixed folded metal and cnc machined
- no J-Box (upper junction box)
- no D-Box (lower junction box)
- thin(ner) pole (than ProLine)
- not well known outside Paris...

ProLine

+ Payload adjustments from 0.45kg to 20,4kg / 1lb to 45lbs (2 sets of caliper springs)
+ arm completely cnc machined
+ custom made power cables for the RED one and Epic / Scarlet are in the package
+ 4x 12v and 1x 24 volt power cables
+ 12 / 24V for RED and film cameras
+ J-box with LEMO / HD-SDI conenctors
+ D-box with LEMO / HD-SDI conenctors
+ Arm and Sled made in the US
+ possibility to pay via monthly installments
+ tripple V-mount / AB-mount battery plate

+/- classic spring system
+/- Vest made in India, but modified in US
+/- young company
+/- fly case with foam insert

- the spring system could be noisier (mechanical springs vs. latex bands)
- warranty 1 year vs. 2 years (10 years for bands) at L'Aigle
- if a cable or plug is broken, replacing / repairing it costs more time that just running a new cable through the pole.
- Not well know either

? You can not have your own cable passing thru the post (AFAIK). Will check with the manufacturer

Nice David ! Thanks you ! This help me a lot to make the good choice !

I don't see how CNC is better than folded (except for the look and supposed solidity...). Could someone explain me ?
I think we can ask L'Aigle to do a custom cable to power our Epic for the same price...
I would also like to know the weight of the differents system (Sled, Arm, Vest,...) for each manufacturers. This is a important point for my back ;-)

Thanks !

Thanks David.

I saw the picture before I posted, but since the written offer on the blog conspicuously did NOT list a case for the Proline and the L'aigle did, I assumed none was included in the Proline offer. So just to be clear, is the case shown in the picture part of Proline package we'd be getting as opposed to an option we'd have to pay extra for? And does that case fit the vest in with the sled, arm, and other components? It's hard to tell from that photo, how deep the case is and what it's meant to hold. For that matter, I'd love to see a picture of the L'aigle case too since the only ones I could find on their site are those tiny little thumbnails that are not active links to bigger pictures.

I wrote ProLine and L'Aigle about your questions.

L'aigle
+ Includes tripod mounting stand

Both do include it, AFAIK (I sent a mail for confirmation). ProLine has a neat auto lock plate in the set (see website).

CNC is better, because it's more precisely manufactured and is not "bending" (you would need some serious strength to bend even folded metal).

I asked the manufacturers about the weight of arm, vest and sled and L'Aigle about the power cable.

Hi David,
when I look at the poll result it shows clearly most of the people already decided (in their head) for a higher quality rig. This would also be my choice, but for my taste there are not enough manufacturer like proline represented in this poll. Two years ago actionproducts showed their new "Raptor" at NAB and I really think it would be great to try to include it in this poll. I asked them about it and they told me it is professionally tested the last half year and ready to be produced. Sure it is not a $1600.- rig, but I think the poll result until now shows that finally there will be in each $ category enough buyers left to realize a nice discount on the purchased product. I guess in the end we will not be 100 people buying the same product, but maybe 40 the LAING, 40 the proline , maybe 15-20 the Raptor. But every group will get for sure a interesting discount.
As you said in the beginning of this thread: there is no hurry. Would be nice to get a quote for the raptor too.
Thank you,
Marc

Hi Marc,

Action Products was one of the first companies I contacted, especially about the Raptor. Unfortunately, they told me that any discount in in this magnitude is not possible.

Cheers

Pierre from Aigle responded to the questions I forwarded to him:

Are all parts manufactured in France?

Yes, they are, except for standard catalogue parts like bearings, spirit levels, screws, etc.

Can you post some pictures of the bag and trolley?

See attached. The bag is for arm, sled, tripod, frontmounted vest and a little softbag for accessories and monitor.

Could you include in the package a power cable for the RED one or the RED Epic (6pin LEMO, see manual), depending on which option is ordered?

We wouldn't supply any cable (other than standard BNC and XLR4 cables), but just an extremely easy way to wire the sled the way each user want it.

How much do sled, arm and vest each weight?

Sled 3,8kg, arm 4,5kg, vest 2,8kg.

Quentin wrote me that the test was postponed. Are there any reviews by independent authors, which you could send me?

Attached is a review from a canadian journalist and operator, about as outdated as the 2005 to 2010 reviews you [posted].

I attached the review and the photos to my blog post about the L'Aigle offer. The review file is unfortunately to big to attach it here.

Luciano from ProLine also answerd our questions:

How much do sled, arm and vest each weight?

The Arm weighs 2kg 800g, the Sled weighs almost 4kg, the Vest is 3kg.

The case, that is shown on the photo, is included, isn't it? Is there also a case or bag for the vest?

The hard case is included, but the vest doesn't fit in the case. The case for the vest is not included and it will be shipped in a regular box. I will do my best to source some sort of bag for carrying and transport purposes. The pricing on the last two estimates [see blog] are extremely close to cost and I would set up an option to additionally purchase the case for $150 dollars.

Is there a tripod included in the package [additional to the mounting plate -> see offer]?

The tripod is not included because the cost of shipping will be more expensive than the cost of the tripod, so it's a better deal for our customers to buy one separate. But we can include an adapter if any of the red users know they will be using Speaker Tripods. These work really well for heavy weights and they are what I prefer to use. When I travel, I buy one for the job and the leave it there so I don't have to pay additional overweight charges.

Did you had a change to look at the special RED cables (2pin to 6pin LEMO)?

Yes, the cables we will provide for Red Cameras, as well as extra cables with Xlr for accessories.

Is it possible to run your own cables through the pole?

Yes, the topstage and the dbox twist of in seconds to pass the cables through the post for hdmi and other cables.

And if a cable breaks, is it user fixable?

Yes, all cables are fixable and exchangeable we can ship the new cables the next day.

How would we go forward with the group buy? Will you open a paypal store with a discount coupon for redusers? Or should I forward you the list of group members?

Regarding the payment process, I can set up a special page in our website with login and password and we can use this as a special purchase page. The special price depends on how many gears you plan to buy [...].

And is shipping included in the price?

Shipping is also not included in the price because shipping prices vary greatly with international shipping. All gears will be available in Los Angeles and shipping from there will be at the buyers expense, although we are happy to arrange the shipping for each customer.

[A special invoice like in the Basson offer is included for international buyers]

Hi Quentin Im here to resolve your concerns, if the cables plug brakes you don't have to send it back, same as the warranty part's just send me a picture and I'll send you the new part.
you want 2 years warranty?? ok deal you got it!!!
you can pass any cable thru the post in seconds wth our twist of sistem(no tools need it is like open a bottle).
the springs are completely noiseless.
As of right now, the CNC machine and beginning stages of production take place in Argentina, the rest of the manufacturing process will take place in Los Angeles. For the purpose of this group buy, all concerns and problems that may arise will be addressed in L.A., same as any other product made in the United States.
hope this information will clarafy your concern to our company.

hope this method can help, please if you have a question let me know

Regards

Luciano

When can we expect to receive the proline rig once payment is made?

the Cnc parts are made with solid aircraft aluminum super strong one piece no bending fatigue, lighter(2,8 kg full arm) and every single part is exactly the same.

I will admit that I am a little surprised of the lack of testimonials and general information on the rigs being discussed in these threads. Just a friendly suggestion to all these companies, is that proper marketing is essential. Even some of the samples some companies are showcasing are pretty mediocre. There are countless videos online with Garret Brown showing the in's and out of every Steadicam model. I would suggest a concise video explaining:

1. What sets your rig apart from the rest
2. Main components of your rig
3. The adjustability of the rig
4. The limitations of the rig and specs
5. proper examples of it in use
6. whats included in the rig

This would be great! I'm excited to see how this all pans out.

let me see depending the quantity first I will made a special page in the website for red users to keep updates and publishing photos and blogs of the production process so every body can follow us and keep track of their products.

Good to see on the forums here Luciano. This would be a great first step.
