  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Stalingrad

Looking forward to watching this on BluRay around 27th Dec.

The Russian Blu-Ray release doesn't have English subtitles... is there another international version out?

Having said that, I'm tempted to get the Russian one anyway - I have quite a few movies in their native language/release and it's interesting to watch movies like this (I've done it with Danish, French, Hindi and Russian movies).

Doesn't look like there is another release yet. If you get the Russian release keep in mind there are two versions, 2D and 3D.

dammit, looks like I bought the German version, which came up after a search for 'Stalingrad 2013'. Must remember not to shop at Amazon in a hurry next time :-)

Looks like I'll have to content myself with Joseph Vilsmaier's version and this vfx reel for the moment.

I would buy this on Blu-Ray if it came out in a 2D/3D combo pack but I can't see this film ever getting released in the US and certainly not in 3D as consumers here aren't really buying into 3D Blu-Ray releases for the most part given the 2-3x price difference.

According to imdb this movie gets a uk-release in feb 2014, which means there a chances for a uk-blu-ray release later, probably with english subs or even a dub.

One more thing to keep in mind for anyone who is planning on getting the russian blu-ray, is regional coding. It looks like this disc is Code C, not codefree.

The German one is pretty good, I have it on VHS (LOL!) and enjoyed it way back in the olden days ;)

The acting looks great from what I see in their eyes and expression.

Then the vFX. They are getting closer. A few of the shots felt truthful but this looks like more of a video game than a film.

Thats a a shit load of good work considering budget. Of course there are some weak shots and such but all in all they really did well with their explosions and such. To me this film would benefit so much if it was flipped to log and then printed out on some really old, preferably from the 90 or so, fuji stock and then make a low con print from there or even an INR at some not so well kept lab. That would make the CG melt together and all unnatural colors would be eliminated and the film would look tons better. Not saying it does not look cool now but I think that's a pretty low cost way to push it even a few steps more up the quality ladder. I done such reprint/digitise round trips in the past and it's really does wonders.
