  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Stage 3, 3.5 and beyond...

So I'd say that any product information in the store (and that is where it belongs, not 'only' in the forum IMHO) should be as detailed as possible. Why not have a list of included items and a real photo of an open box. A image tells me a lot. And I'd appreciated if there would be e.g. exemplary mounting methods and ways of use (some products have that)...

Second I still wish on some more detailed information how parts fit together in general, like recommended setups and required pieces as explosion sheets. We know there are nearly uncountable options, but some field proven setups would already help a lot, as a starting point, maybe with a parts order number list and a price info.

Great ideas! RED, I think it'd be pretty easy to rustle up volunteers to create these videos and put them up on the site. I'd say offer the volunteers a credit towards accessories, and you'd certainly have some takers.

As I have said many times I very much do appreciate this upgrade program and - again - I think my point is being lost. I am not asking for a solution on how to power my Epic - I am trying to offer some constructive criticism in order to better serve your customers. I am suggesting that if Red more effectively communicated to me what exactly I would be getting at the time I was told my Epic PACKAGE was ready (i.e. that there would be many components missing) I would have held off receiving it. I have been going from job to job with little down time to sift through threads and explore 3rd party options plus the lead time it takes to get them. As much praise as we all give Red - I think giving constructive criticism from time to time is valid. And as such shouldn't be viewed as some heavy handed slamming that needs to be "dealt with". Sorry if my suggestions were misinterpreted.

It was made crystal clear to me last August by my bomb squad rep, not to mention by following the forum, what accessories would and would not be available with my Epic M. I really don't get the "if only i had been told line"...

Remember, every conversation is different - we are not talking with scripts when communicating with RED. They are real people that are part of the community - thankfully it's not an automated system (press 8 and the pound key for backorder status - uugh)

When my EPIC was allocated, my rep let me know that the LCD was part of the package via email - before we could complete the transaction several hours later, the LCD had changed to backorder status.
So the EPIC arrived - displayed as a piece of art, contemplation and dreams - and that was all it could be until the next batch of LCD's came in.

So yes, everything is subject to change. When you are breaking down barriers as RDC has been doing in our industry/art, there is no choice.

From my observation, everyone here has good intentions.
I understand the entire intent of Dylan's posts - constructive input is one of the means that we learn from and grow. When we insult constructive input, we all lose.

I understand where RED is coming from too - everything they have come through to deliver leading edge technology - the volitility of the supply chain, ramping up to meet demand and absorbing everyone's frustrations when everything doesn't fall in place. No doubt, it takes it's toll as much as it rewards. Especially when you consider the fact that RDC keeps the transparency open for the world to see through this forum, let's all acknowledge that we all benefit when we put the rose colored glasses aside now and then.

I'm glad to hear that was your experience Marc. Not so for my Stage 3 trade in. I was informed of backordered items "after" I shipped my REDone for evaluation. So it was too late for me to delay my order. I would have preferred the information up front. Doesn't seem like a lot to ask?

And of course you don't get the "if only I'd been told" line - because that wasn't your experience.

Axel's many great suggestions on this thread echo my sentiments. Better dissemination of information is the short request.

+1 to that.

Ill provide the most detailed backorder update we have ever had in the next 48 hours including the accessories... now that we have visibility on how the stages are going it will be much easier to give you guys better info.

If possible an update on the Leica M mount would be much appreciated

thanks

Michael

You guys have really come a long way. Through the dark times, the light is near. Congratulations on this. It is a major achievement and accomplishment.

I have been hard on you guys it the past, even been banned for it, but lately, things have been going so much smoother. Bought a cable the other day and it shipped pretty much right away.

Thank you for tackling such a huge roadblock. This is the key to your success.

OK.... now i get it. I'm with you on this one...

I still don't fully understand why EPIC-X with Ti PL Mount is $38,000 and Scarlet with Ti PL Mount is $13,200. It's cool, just don't understand what makes it cost 3 times less.

I think it's a case of diminishing returns/low yield. That last few percent of power is exponentially more expensive to create. For every processor/board/whatever that is up to spec for an Epic, there are many more that don't come out that way. It's the same way with computer processors.

Michael Z... I think the issues are cost, value and market differentiation. An Epic costs more to make I am sure (as Kevin notes). But one reason Red has the right to charge more for Epic is because it is worth that much for the features it has compared to the Scarlet. The Epic is cheaper by far than any cinema camera out there (though the Epic's specs far surpass them), so the market easily bears it's price tag. There is a market that the Epic is geared toward and a market the Scarlet is geared toward. If the price is too close, then one product will cannibalize the other and there becomes no reason to have two products. A $25,000 gap is about right between the two products even if the cost to produce them is only a $5K-$10K gap because the Epic is simply worth it. If anything, the Epic is under priced. That's my two cents.

Looks like there are some people complaining about theirs stage3 and 3,5.
I bought my Red One too late to have access to this stage but if you're unhappy with your case, let me know, I will be glad to let you my Red One and get your Epic-X! Even if I still like my Red One, I won't spit on a trade-in for a brand new Epic-X...

You can buy a computer for a few hundred dollars but if you want a "blood stock" workstation like a HP z800 you might have pay 10 000 dollar. All dependent of how "refined" the components are inside.

So... you are asking why a camera at 1/3rd the cost has 1/10th the capabilities?

I own two Scarlets and love them, they are different way less options... I shot something at 6 stops over and was able to get a good image, not the purtiest with a bright sun, but not Epics fault in Palm Beach Florida and the Director didn't let me backlight my subjects...

*** I also own an Epic.

A question about the kink in the order date vs. delivery date when it comes to the Scarlet Ti Canon Mount cameras. I ordered early on Nov. 3rd but had to wait and watch about 1000 people who ordered AFTER me get their cameras before me during the 2 months it took for the Canon Ti mounts to catch up.

So even though I did everything in my power to order early and take delivery ASAP... later when it comes time to upgrade the sensor I will be 1000 back in the line --AGAIN -- through not fault of my own. Unless you do not make an exception to the old delivery date as your place in line policy.

I'm requesting an adjustment for the Scarlet Ti Mount cameras to be in line for future upgrades by when the date ordered -- instead of the delivery date -- since we had no control over the delayed delivery caused by the back ordered Ti mounts.

Thanks,
