We promised to step up production. We have.

There are two paths... those that are upgrading and those that are new buying EPIC and Scarlet.

While Stage 3 and 3.5 are a priority for us... it will take time to notify, receive RED ONE trade-ins, examine the returned cameras and collect the funds for the EPIC upgrade. This process is one at a time. And we are on it.

In the meantime... we are producing a ton of EPICs. Rather than just sit on them until all the Stage 3 and 3.5's are finished... we are beginning to fulfill new orders. Makes sense.

This shouldn't be a surprise. Those that are trading in their RED ONEs (for full credit) have a program that is unprecedented in the industry. But to think that we won't continue our business until this process is done is unrealistic. We aren't going to hold orders for new cameras while the upgrade process is in process as long as we have sufficient stock.

Stage 3 and 3.5 will not be held up. But neither will new orders while we have cameras.

Questions?

I like good news. This is good news indeed. Jim can you comment of the position of the accessories - are these running at good clip also?

Just curious (not that it affects me) but, will this process disrupt the order of serial numbers? Would someone who places a new order have a lower serial number than someone in stage 3/3.5?

Everything is coming up quickly... accessories included.

Two months from now there won't be anything called a backorder...

It involves customers responding to our emails, sending back their cameras, having the cameras inspected, requesting funds and receiving funds. Some don't respond as quickly as others. Should we wait in line for one after another to respond?

Ill provide the most detailed backorder update we have ever had in the next 48 hours including the accessories... now that we have visibility on how the stages are going it will be much easier to give you guys better info.

I'm pleased this has been said now :)

The 3/3/5 program is super (uber even) generous... and I hope something similar will happen again (should it need to!) and encompass the growing RED army.

I just think the clarification is good and reminds everyone of the fact that RED is still a company that has a business to run.

BTW - speaking as someone who took delivery of an Epic-X today (so I guess I'm a Stage4 :)

The upgrade program is unprecedented. But it is unfair to expect that we will wait for ever single person to send in their camera and pay their money before we ship another camera. They are two separate programs.

No, not what I was suggesting. I know if I were in that boat, I'd be as prompt as humanly possible. I just didn't know about current stock, and the process of assigning cameras, but you obviously would have thought of that stuff.

EDIT: Please don't think I'm being critical. I'm very happy for both RED, and those who get to take delivery soon!

The only thing I don't want anyone to be confused with is that we will sell new customers cameras while Stage 3 and 3.5 are being handled. We are not going to sit on inventory while the Stage process is being completed.

Since Stage 3 and 3.5 are not held up, it is a non-issue.

The only part that people don't seem to understand is that the trade-in program takes a bit of time... the surprise is how slow people are to respond and pay. We can't hold up our business for this.

If serial number xxx delays, should we hold up the next one in line? Answer is no.

Hi Guys,

Will the new camera build, soon to be released, have audio playback enabled?

The build coming next week is going to highlight RG/RC3 as well as the updated AF code and some bug fixes. Audio during Playback will be coming around NAB time ( probably shortly after )

Great! Thanks for the update. I'm excited to hear Audio Playback is not too far away.

Makes tons of sense to me. No question. But I will say thank you. The stage 3 upgrade is an incredibly generous offer. RED has been nothing but generous since day one. Through numerous upgrades and updates I feel like I've benefitted from incredibly generous offer after incredibly generous offer. My R1 and I kicked some ass and I'm sorry to see it go, but I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to work with that camera and now an Epic. I say be profitable, hire more awesome talent, develop the future and allow Jarred to buy a faster car so he can spend more time at work and less time on the freeway.
