  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SONY F65 - ALEXA - EPIC - just tick the boxes

and there are photographers that destroy their negatives after they are developed so they can never go back and change their minds validating their absolution on that's what they wanted and got the first time. :)

to each to their own!

You are confusing an analog technology (film negative) with digital (CR1,2,3 etc). Negatives need no ongoing manufacturer specific technical support. How many times have I been fucked by companies like Sony setting a Standard then not supporting it several years later.

Get back to me in 10 years and let me know how those current issue RAW files your storing, in hope of a better tool to fix your images, are working out. I have some stored on SyQuest 44 / Win95 disks . . . if I could just find that drive that works and hopefully LightRoom20 will support the codec when that time comes to reevaluate my RAW masterpieces.

Sorry, back to talking about Sony doing something special . . .

Fun thing is that my 4+ years old R3D's have become better than when I shot them... So I guess they won't be worse in 5+ years than they are now.

Can still access them, BTW... :)

Where did you get the side SSD unit with the reversed LCD/EVF input?

;)

Do'h!! This Epic would actually have a tick on my list where the real thing has a big minus for rendering the only currently available LCD/EVF output useless when using Nikonos lens mount! What a shame...

Same here! I had to re-edit an ad we shot over 4 years ago when we first got our RED ONES... Blew me away when we re-graded the new edit. it was like we had new files or something. That is so cool !...

Old M chip files looked amazing!

And this is why people should tick there own boxes when purchasing cameras. My ticks (needs) will never correspond with someones else's...

I'm a very happy camper... :)

Oh and the skin color/tone augment doesn't fly with me, I'm working in RAW. I discard all meta data shot on set when I go to final grade.
I simply start a fresh and change skin color / tones to what ever I want.... Easy as that.
Saying ARRI is better than RED is just a joke. I think a lot of you guys must not run your own post & grades.

Why use the colour settings you shot on the day as your final... Why shoot RAW if your not going to use the RAW files to there full potential.

Crazy stuff...

Someone give me a ARRI skin portrait shot, and Ill shoot a EPIC of some skin and I bet i can match it perfectly... And to make it even tougher for me, Ill shoot the camera at 3200k in 5600k.... Ill screw up all my settings and I can still get back to perfection.
RAW is RAW... PRO RES is colour baked...

Come on guys...
Right on point !

Well i love the freedom the small form factor gives and i would love to see Dani here holding an F65 or Alexa with a Codex box!

Sorry about the iPhone pic but heh...:)

I can almost guarantee that the engineers behind the doors at RED have opened up an Alexa and have reversed engineered that bloody sensor and plan to give Arri a 'one up' soon.

It's only the most natural progression for RED's next sensor to take. Alexa Latitude & Skin tones + 4k RAW capability. A definite winner.

The hacking scandal notwithstanding, don't you think Arri engineers (or other major competitors for that matter) have done the same thing with the Epic?

It happens everywhere, don't get me wrong, that's the whole purpose of R&D; to see whats out there and to try and push a product out the door thats better than the others.

I don't think the EPIC sensor is inferior to the Alexa's, but both Arri and RED need to learn from each other. I've worked with alot of DP's and colorists, all have ditched the RED and prefer the Alexa for a natural film look. There are alot of things the Alexa can do that the EPIC can't, and vice versa. It would be brilliant to see a camera with Alexa lattitude with 4k RAW capability, which is where I'm thinking RED is going next since they've nailed the 4k RAW part.
