  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Some good RR news...

If i wanted to test this out, Obviously not the most tech savy genius on here but its just a thought,
I'm just wondering, not sure how this would work so its just an idea to test it,
PCIe adaptor

then
The expansion system?

Does any of that make any sense or am I just talking rubbish? :P

I would wait for RED to release their findings for connecting the RR to a PCIe ExpressCard expander and not all such expanders are compatible with all cards, nor do they all perform equally well. You also have to consider the limitations of such an arrangement and what you hope to get out of it. There's only the equivalent of 1 PCI-e lane usable via ExpressCard and that is only 1/8th of the bandwidth that the RED Rocket can use.

At the very least, we know that a Macbook Pro or similar PC notebook can be used with the RED Rocket to give us realtime 4K playback to a 4K projector or other high resolution display. The question of how much data can be fed back from the Rocket into the computer is still unknown. And then you have to consider how powerful your system is and what you can do with it.

anything yet ? :)

It is in our best interests to tell you as soon as we are comfortable. We will likely sell more RRs as soon as we release the info. Hang in there...

Jim

But it's going to be a different card/solution, or i can go ahead and buy RR and than buy the laptop """adaptor"""?

Thanks

Same card. You can buy the card now and add the laptop adaptor later.

wow...keep coming guys!
You all rocks.

You all rock guys. But that's old news.

So you could play a 4K file from a new macbook pro via RR card and show it on a new Samsung LED 50'' TV. All directly via HDMI line/port?

This would be killer for presentations. Customers and producers will go crazy when they see it. This will end all the discussions about using RED or maybe not. They will just go nuts over the IQ and the ease of use when they just see a laptop and LCD in their own office.

So this will be possible?
Congrats guys. You just sold me a RR card.

Keep on rocking.

Tim

Sold me too...he he he

thanks Jim. I was away and thought it might have been on the other RR thread...

I do like the HP notebook that has the Dreamcolor screen, express connection, HDMI and eSATA all native on the motherboard. Does make for a nice field system - I know it's not a Mac - but I am ambidextrous that way.

Michael

Is this possible to be modified to be a "hackintosh"? if so, this is perfect, and probably more financial effective...

Just saying

Indeed sir. I thought the same but thought I shouldn't spam. But how cool would it be to have both going at once on a 256GB SSD partitioned as two 128GB drives for each.

:lipsrsealed:

Will this likely work on any 17" MacBook Pro with an Expresscard slot?
(I have the 2006 model - 2.33GHz Core2 Duo, 667MHz bus with 3GB RAM, and 100GB 7200RPM internal drive.)

I was planning to use this system for editing the 2/3" fixed lens 3K Scarlet footage... and this looks like it may be an amazing way to extend the life of my editing system all while keeping it portable.

Of course I understand testing would be in order before RED could fully say "Yay" or "Nay" on this but letting us know which model they ran the test on might be a nice gesture. :)

Lets hope Reds cost less than these.

Actually a ways back in the thread Deanan had said its an UNRELEASED PCI-E expander... no mention of vendor and was waiting confirmation to release it. Jim also stated they will announce asap as they will sell more cards with this set up.

EDIT: Found it:

The one we used is an unreleased model. Let me check if I can say the name yet.
