  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Some good RR news...

That's awesome. I guess it is only about ~30MB/s of data going out to the card.

I assume it doesn't speed up renders [or on-screen display] to realtime, yeah? Getting all that data back through the 1x slot seems like it wouldn't be very fast.

Great stuff!

We're evaluating performance and compatibility on different expanders so we should have a qualified recommendation soon.

projector, laptop, rocket, and firewire drive in a pelican and you've got a very compact dailies system. (minus the screen :)

now your COOKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now we need an even more portable RAW acquisition REDCODE solution than the existing ones, that is, Scarlet.

E. :-)

That's AMAZING news. Once again you guys catch me by surprise. It's so rare I ever say about Red,"Naw, they couldn't do that", but every time I do you just go and do it anyway. Default reaction now has to be, "if it's a good idea, no matter how remote the possiblity, Jim and the gang will do it".

Jim I k ow you guys arnt wrapped up too much in how other people run their businesses, but could you please tell apple to put that express card reader back on their friggen 15" at least! No way I'm carrying a 17" around the world.

Apple manufactured a first run of the new 15" MBP with the express 34 card slot but stopped it very soon after. So there are a few MBP out there still being sold with the express 34 card slot check this out as soon as a friend sent me this I got a loan and bought one.

Lucas from Assimilate had a demo of Scratch here in Kuala Lumpur on thursday. We had a video conference with Ted from his living room where I asked Ted whether there would be RR for MacBook and Laptop. He said they are really working on it.

Good to know results are here!

PS, I took Lucas out for the best honey chicken on the planet. Will definitely take you Red guys there when you guys come down on November.

I don't believe that Apple will go back to express card, instead of they'll support the upcoming USB 3.0 in early 2010 laptop series. So is there any chance for a RR USB 3.0 bridge or adapter?

I guess that falls to a 3rd party developer coming up with a USB3-PCIe adaptor. Given the price of a Red Rocket and the potential of this, I'd think a 17" is a bit of a no-brainer.

You all rock guys. But that's old news.

So you could play a 4K file from a new macbook pro via RR card and show it on a new Samsung LED 50'' TV. All directly via HDMI line/port?

This would be killer for presentations. Customers and producers will go crazy when they see it. This will end all the discussions about using RED or maybe not. They will just go nuts over the IQ and the ease of use when they just see a laptop and LCD in their own office.

So this will be possible?
Congrats guys. You just sold me a RR card.

Keep on rocking.

GEEZ LOU' FKING' EZZ! I never had a doubt that you would pull this off, but it is so weird now that you did. I really don't know what to make of this yet... but I would assume it should create a very good reason for someone to make affordable, small, but mighty 2k projector. Someone... RED?
