  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sony pmw-ex3

That wheel is a big tease not allowing the operator to over/undercrank while recording. I recently saw some really bad artifacting happening in the highlight areas of the ex1. Nice camera but RED is still best bang for the buck.

Article is gone now...

I've yet to see any obvious artifacting in EX-1 footage... I've been very impressed.

We've been cutting EX1 in with Varicam footage, and the EX-1 is noticeable less noisy overall.

Does the fact that Sony is officially announcing on Sunday 13th April instead of Monday mean anything?

Also, Phil Bloom mentioned something called the Letus Ultimate.

Hi guys. Nigel who runs dvuser accidently broke the embargo which is tomorrow afternoon. Once that has passed go to www.philipbloom.net and there will be an 8 and a half minute video review done by some scruffy git.

Also there is indeed a Letus Ultimate. I have it in my hands right now. It's a spinner with 1/2 stop light loss, variable speed on the wheel, also means you can stop right down and use high shutter like the er...Red!

All in the same size package as the extreme but for a lot more dosh. I am about to go out and do some tests in Vegas.

I have 2 pictures, sent to me fram a Japanese site, and I haven't signed anything.
Looks a lot like an Canon XL1 type camera.

Should I post?

A lot more money? well crud.

I read the entire article before it was pulled. It seems that the EX1 will now have an upgrade in July.

http://www.dvuser.co.uk/content.php?CID=174

The article will reappear at midnight GMT. It will have what the EX1 already has plus interchangeable lens, a EVF that makes use of the HD LCD on the EX1 and a variable frame rate wheel.

There is a small change to the body as well.

Also 32GB SXS due this fall.

More to come.

Cheers,
G

So they took the new HVR-Z7 and the EX-1 and mashed them together...good idea. My guess is it'll cost ya a couple more hundred dollars. Hope the EX1 price drops in case Scarlet isn't the indie filmmaker's dream...which I don't think it'll be.

It's no Red, but it's looking to be a Panasonic/Canon killer.
We'll have to see what they unveil.
Seems there is yet another mini revolution brewing. :-)

That's a handsome camera. What framerates are available?

One thing that baffles me: They know people are going to slap 35mm adapters on these, so why don't they just make the chip 35mm cine size from the start? Even if it's only 1080p, that's fine if you can use real cine lenses without those stupid adapters. Why hasn't anyone (except RED) figured this out??

slow progress means more sales.

Sony uses a prism to split the light into three components. The three sensors are set on the prism. It is harder to accommodate larger size sensors on the prism. Also they have to keep the price affordable. The factory price of a Sony camera is 1/4-th that of the consumer price. So, they have to manufacture very cheaply to make it affordable to consumers.
Red uses just one sensor behind the lens. Easy to do. But three sensors give better picture.

PWR-EX1, EX2, EX7,..... EX128.

I hope RED hits them hard with the modular design, cause I hate all this un-upgradable and always-soon-to-become-obsolete cool cameras.
