  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So is it true that the Gemini produces a soft picture? Do you regret not going to 8K?

Red Monstro

Red Helium

I believe he mislabeled the first video below as a Leica Summicron 25mm when it should have been the Leica Summicron 21mm.

I Believe the video below is Of the Helium sensor not Monstro, because a 25mm lens on Monstro would have a much wider FOV

I love your pictures Luigi. I think there is not much qualitative content that has been filmed with Gemini at the moment.

Luigi,

Hey Luigi, I sometimes have the same problems with my camera: hot pixels and vertical lines.
I do blackshading but that not working. Do you have suggestions ?

For what it's worth, that particular frame looks like it's from a Helium, since it's 8K 16:9. The Gemini is probably not immune to similar issues, but in the 5K frames, I'm not seeing any hot pixels. In the other Helium image (the two men facing each other), I'm scanning for hot pixels and not finding any. Perhaps it varies under different conditions, or even between frames?

RED Gemini 5K LOW LIGHT TEST!

from YouTube..

On the fly test with the NEW RED DIGITAL "GEMINI 5K" No lighting used, just simply the ambient street light that existed. Shot in lowlight mode with ISO ranging between 1600-3200 with an f-stop ranging f4-f8. We even shot upwards of 96fps in a few scenes! The camera is extremely clean in low light scenarios even when you push the ISO high! Not a scientific test, just something to simply test the camera in these low light scenarios on the fly.

Here's more from that big Monstro, Helium and Gemini test. It keeps coming in pieces from different vimeo posters. Here's some more Monstro.

Took frame grab to try to get rid of that "She Hulk" skin in the clip above.

Removed green from skin in a scene from the "RED Gemini 5K LOW LIGHT TEST!" above. Bringing skin from green to about proper skin tones always seems to bring out more Purple/Magenta in the Gemini than I remember seeing in Monstro.

Lost Village Festival / Chapter IV

From Vimeo...

Weird, surreal, beautiful and bizarre… Welcome to the forest of the Lost Village.

For Chapter IV of Lost Village Festival we wanted to push the cinematography even further than before, focussing this time on the contrast between brand new and vintage tech. Using two RED Gemini cameras as well as Super 8 and VHS we aimed to create a feeling of old vs new - reflecting the weird and wonderful characters and setting of the festival.

In the edit, we punched into and sped up VHS clips to create quick cuts of grainy colour between crisp RED clips. We also added a strong layer of sound design underneath Maribou State’s ‘Kama’, especially in the intro sequence, to create a feeling of increasing tension.

Bring on Chapter V!

Playing with those frames from Luigi, trying to maintain a consistent, highly-stylized ambience across the different lighting setups -

The Gemini. It's pretty good. Imo.
