  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A couple months ago I went and tested the Signature Primes vs the Sigma, Leica-R (which I own) and the Tokina. To be really honest the difference in low level detail of image, CA, and breathing was amazing compared vs the others, of course thats what you expect when 1 lens cost the complete set of the others. Today I finally received my new lenses.

So this thread is to help anyone that might have questions about the signature primes, or wants me to do some image testing. Ill be trying to upload videos as I start using them more, I currently use the Wooden LPL Mount. The sad part there is no LDS-2 information into RED, I think its because of royalty fee ARRI wants to charge to RED.

How do they compare to the Leica R's? I am building a set of the R's now and really happy with them.

Hey Rodrigo... what focal lengths did you get in the end?

We feel that are a very good match for our Monstro so expect you will enjoy them....

Ps my understanding is you will be able to upgrade the firmware shortly (on the lenses ) so the lenses communicate /I data rather than LDS2 when connected to a Red camera with a mount that passes that data.

I got the 18mm (around 15mm S35) 35mm (25mm equivalent) & 75mm (53mm equivalent)

Here I'm attaching a picture of the sunset out of my balcony with the 18mm, this weekend I plan in doing some shooting.

I'm not ultra expert but in my experience from my GlOptics Leica (which I love) the breathing was really high and the CA was insane compared to the Signature primes.

Also the biggest thing I saw when I checked the Tokina, Leica or Sigmas vs SP was that in the focus chart the smallest circle that has all those tiny details was not captured by the other lenses, just by the SP. ( https://www.image-engineering.de/products/charts/all/542-te220 ) so that was something that I never though happened in any lens.(ignorance)

Is that worth 180k more? I cant really justify that for sure, but then again I wanted to be able to capture the most beautiful image possible.

The Signature Primes are stunning lenses. I think you get what you pay for.

Any vignetting with the SPs on Monstro open gate? I'm sure there will be some shading but interested if there is full corner to corner coverage. Spec wise the SPs should be slightly shy but I have the feeling they cover.

I just tested wide open in the 18mm and no vignetting at all.

This video is from Yesterday, a simple time lapse, The export from davinci put some glitches (memory issue probably), but either way It gives you an idea it was shot at F4 on the 18mm. It also seems I make it a little darker that I wanted (sorry)

I did a lens test at the new Arri HQ last week with the Signatures, Master Primes, Supreme Primes, Thalias, S7i, and a master anamorphic for good measure. It's amazing how superior the Signatures were, not only in image quality, but build as well. The magnesium makes them incredibly light, and nothing else came close optically. They have a quality like shooting anamorphic without the anamorphic quality. Super pleasing.

Yes this was a big factor because actually I can mount this on a MoviPro, they where actually lighter than my Leica-R from GL Optics
