Just got mine a couple days ago and I'm really impressed with this product. Love the build quality, the simplicity, the remote and the LUT capabilities. I highly recommend it!

Where did you get that hdsdi cable? +

Yes, I'm also wondering how you guys are mounting it. Their kits $99 but I'm pretty sure someone could built it for much less.

Doesn't get much cheaper than this
Yeah, not much cheaper... but still cheaper.

One quick-release rod block for $21.99: http://www.amazon.com/Smallrig-Rele...437197991&sr=8-2&keywords=smallrig+15mm+quick
One standard rod block for $9.90: http://www.amazon.com/Smallrig®-Con...437198604&sr=8-3&keywords=smallrig+15mm+block
One rod--many of us have these, but here are two for $14: http://www.amazon.com/Smallrig®-Alu...=1437198065&sr=8-2&keywords=smallrig+15mm+rod
Throw in some rod caps for $5.80, for safety: http://www.amazon.com/Thread-Preven...1437198065&sr=8-12&keywords=smallrig+15mm+rod
And the cold shoe adapter for $5.99: http://www.amazon.com/Smallrig®-Hot...&qid=1437198182&sr=8-3&keywords=smallrig+shoe

So for $57.68, you have their exact same mount (literally, theirs is SmallRig), along with an extra rod! Not huge savings, but hey, $42 is $42.

A nice alternative would be SmallRig's EVF mounts. It looks to me like the SideFinder has a NATO rail on the mount?

If that's the case, then something like this could attach to a NATO rail on your camera, then to the NATO rail on the SideFinder:

Big thumbs up for Alan and Co. at Media Blackout. Great work, can customize anything to your needs, quick turnaround, fair prices.

Will probably update as time goes on.

I finally received my EVF from SmallHD yesterday. It was originally scheduled to be delivered on Monday but a “train derailment” by UPS moved the date. Needless to say I was disappointed. But finally, the delivery was made! The first thing I noticed is that the packaging is significantly bigger than the SmallHD 502 box. I’ve attached a photo for you guys below

502 Sidefinder Feeback?

502 Sidefinder Feeback?

Any feedback on how well the 502/Sidefinder has been working for you? I have read a lot of mixed reviews, especially concerning the viewfinder reflection on the side. I am ready to move on from the Red Touch 5" and was going to grab a Sidefinder but the mixed reviews have made me second guess it.

I agree, Derek. The viewfinder reflection is the biggest issue with the Sidefinder. It would be nice if a SmallHD rep could acknowledge the issue here and offer some kind of solution.

I think the biggest problem is the sidefinder popping opening, they acknowledged the problem and said they were in beta for a fix, see below

Suresh,

We are working on a solution and are beta testing it now. Stay tuned for updates on this.

Suresh,

I completely understand but I simply don't have any more information right now. I also have not been given any clear info on how SmallHD will plan to execute things if the beta test is successful. I really can't cay anything except that I imagine we will let people know once a solution is implemented. I can add you to my list of people to keep in the loop.
I am sorry I can't offer much more information than that.

I believe I heard somewhere that SmallHD installed magnets that weren't strong enough on the Sidefinder, hence why there are issues with it locking shut. I would rather have the issue solved with stronger magnets, rather than some after thought latching brackets.

It also sucks that SmallHD recently decided to give the Sidefinder away for free ($300 value) with purchase of a 500 series monitor, while early adopters have had to deal with these manufacturing problems with no rebate offer.

It would be great for a SmallHD rep to chime in.

Thanks!

I had the sidefinder for about two days before I sent it back - the reflection is terrible and a distraction. Love my 502 monitor, but the EVF option is useless until they fix this issue.
