  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Full Frame Scarlet (36×24 mm)

Is there any news on when a FF (36×24 mm) Scarlet might be made available? I would love to use my FF lens without a crop factor. Thanks for any info.

Err. I'd assume never.

Even if Dragon full frame is an option for Scarlet (who knows? nobody). I doubt it would be able to process video frame rates from it. Even with upgraded boards and stuff. It can only do 12fps at the full APS-H size right now.

I think it would be in everyones best interest to consider the Scarlet as it's exact features right now, and not think about anything that could possibly be in the future.

Please no full frame!!!! It's the ideal size as it is.

Then crop the sensor. You can always crop, you can't expand. Everybody wins.

I may be wrong, but I recall Jim talking about dragon, saying the upgrade would be more expensive for scarlet owners because the hardware wouldn't be able to handle it and they would need to replace the processor.

Sounds to me like they are taking it to full frame.

Not to mention RED started talking about the epic cameras in 2008 and they didnt start rolling out until late 2011 in any real quantity. I think it would be safe to assume that it will be at least 2 years from the first time we see the red dragon mock up images and the "coming soon" recon message from red

Peter, I respectfully disagree, as Red is concerned about broadcasting a roadmap to their many competitors. I have a feeling the day the sensor specs are released is the day Red starts taking orders for the upgrade.

Personally I'm really, really hoping Dragon is a project name used among friends...I can't say "my camera now has dragon" and keep a straight face, can you? So your Scarlet-X will now be a Scarlet-D? Weird.

Nothing about that even remotely suggests that they are "taking it to full frame" with the Dragon upgrade.

From a DOF standpoint I find the current sensor size very adaptable.

Stop down. :D

If they make a FF sensor you should get a lot more light and less noise which would let you shoot at higher ISOs and higher F-Stops.

The only argument I can make for smaller sensors is lighter lenses. But a lot of cine glass is the same size and weight so that doesn't particularly matter.

New Nikon D800 could switch FX format and Dx format, that is a great idea,I love full frame sensor ..................
