  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Silky smooth credit rolls in After Effects

BTW, for those who are following along on this 6-year-old thread, I would strongly urge any filmmakers who care about credits to consider using Endcrawal for their credits. It's a reasonably-priced ($495) service where you enter and place all the title information in what's basically a Google spreadsheet, then their cloud software renders the files in 4K or 2K or HD or whatever you want. Endcrawl figures out various algorithms in order to avoid judder, smearing, aliasing, and other problems caused by combinations of certain typefaces and certain vertical motion speeds.

This is a really, really high-quality application that I've recommended to many of my indie clients. Endcrawl was used not too long ago on the Oscar-winning film Moonlight, so believe me when I say that Endcrawl is very effective. They also provide hundreds of available logos (including Red and Alexa) for services and technical processes at the very end of the crawl. I did a feature about 18 months ago where their Premiere/After Effects titles were awful, so I redid them as a courtesy in Endcrawl. The QC company commented, "the movie looks cheesy, but those credits look like they're from a multi-million-dollar film," which I consider a compliment.

In regards to endcrawl: it’s a great paid product. I haven’t used it but I am familiar with the people behind the platform. They are professional and I hear nothing but good stories about the experience and product. I will continue to use my little AE project for small indie films but I actually imagine endcrawl is WAY more effective as a film scales up in size. There is an ability for collaboration in the process that AE treats only as single user land. I would imagine the totally broke but ingenuitive indie folks will find the script in AE a godsend but as things get bigger, you need a dedicated person or team to handle the credits. Those types of operations would likely be better suited for Endcrawl.

On a side note:
It’s kind of amazing how I still get messages regarding this post all these years later. I’m glad everyone who has used it got something out of the AE session and I wish you all the best on your films- be it with my little tinker toy or the endcrawl service.
