Thanks for the update! For what it's worth: I'll be using Canon glass almost exclusively on my EPIC-X...it would be great to buy only the Canon mount instead both a PL + the Canon mount.

I guess I'll join the others for what it's worth: I'll be using Canon glass almost exclusively on my EPIC-X...it would be extremely nice to be able to buy only the Canon mount when buying the kit instead of a PL mount + the Canon mount.

Sign me in. Especially when the price of the mount is $2000.

Jim, to clarify.. stage 3 upgrades should happen before 2012 ? If not, will the price hike hit us too?

Jim: "5. Stage 3 will reflect similar changes to the package as Stage 2. Stage 3 package price is $28,000 less $17,500 and trade in your non-executed RED ONE. Net due is $10,500."

Stage 3 is a package and exempt from the EPIC-X brain only increase on Jan 1.

My stomach has been in knots since this update. I just know Epic-S is not going to be released until after Jan 1st, and have a $19,000+ brain price tag.

I'm curious about this among other things, and any info would be greatly appreciated. While it's awesome to know the price changes so far in advance to prepare accordingly, details on the other products will definitely help customers such as myself make a decision, the kind who are on the fence between Scarlet and Epic. If I were to choose Epic, I would definitely want to put my deposit and order down before year end, especially if there is going to be a similar price jump on the Scarlets and Epic-S in the same timeframe. It isn't RED's responsibility to let the consumer know everything and to give warning, just to put out a product, so it's nice to see such disclosure about future price changes. But if we could get the same info on the other products ahead of time as well, that would be icing on the cake. I know there has been no definitive price released for the Scarlets despite everyones speculation and proposed ranges, but just a confirmation of a percentage of a price increase would help immensely, or to know if the EPIC is fronting all the extra production cost to keep the Scarlets around the same pricing.

Not expecting the latter scenario, just thinking of the possibilities...

I hear you man. The dream is over.

Going from Scarlet S35 at 7,500 to EPIC-S at 17K+ or whatever it will cost is pretty radical.

My hopes lies now with Canon releasing some RAW 1080p camera that has full control of their still lenses.

Not holding my breath, though.

Why not get a scarlet cinema when it comes out

I don't know if there's any reason to assume the Epic-S will be any higher in price than the $12-13K rumor floating around. The price for EPIC-X has never changed since it's original announcement a long time ago. Frankly, it's no surprise that price has increased to $35,000 from $28,000 given the changes we've seen over that time period.

The Epic-S price change, nearly doubled from the original announcement, reflects the very recent rumors of rising costs, increased features and spec changes. All of these things made the original $7500 price spec unrealistic and that price change was warranted.

I think we'll see the Scarlet-F (kit) at $7500 and the Epic-S (body) at $13000, my speculation of course.

KO

Thomas, I understand the disappointment for sure -- but there is no sense pouting about it publicly and stating absolutes like "the dream is over."

The previous price of the S was little more than a guessimate on a camera whose specs had not even been finalized. And so much has changed in virtually
every area. Let's let Red make an official statement when they have answers for all this, especially because many less experienced posters come to this board and could
interpret such disappointment and statements as fact -- or worse, FUD.

Ultimately, I really hope you get your camera at price that's workable -- but it's important to be considerate toward everyone, Red included.

What if EPIC-X for normal customers is not released before January 1st, can we pay for it before then?

If this qualifies as Stage 4, open to everyone, Jim said all stages would be available before the end of the year.

If Stage 4 only qualifies for people with Red Ones, then this is a very good question...

I don't know the specifics of Stage 4. I woundn't mind putting in the money this year, even if it meant that the option for regular customers is opened even after January (not meaning that it would help me jump the line, just saying that at least it would guarantee me the 2011 price...), other wise I will not make it, it is already beyond my initial plan

If the M is out of your price range there is the X, if the X is out of your price range there is the S, if the S is out of your price range there is the Scarlet Cinema, if that is out of you price range then there is the Scarlet fixed, and if that is out of you price range, then get a Canon 7D....

I guess in the midst of price changes and spec updates we sometimes forget that REDs most expensive camera, the Epic M, is half the price of an Alexa and so much better. The RED team are making the best camera for your money and I don't think they are just in it to make money off of these camera. I think they are in it because they want all of us to make amazing images with them, so they can be proud of their camera, so that people will use them on major motion pictures, so that they can say they played a huge huge huge part in converting the film world into digital and doing it with dignity and respect. They didn't settle for 1080p, they really didn't settle for anything. They respected how film looked and wanted to match that in the digital realm and help people like us, who otherwise would never ever have such easy in making a feature movie or a short movie.

In the end they are helping us in everyway possible... Of course there are price increases. There are price increases in everything. It's just how things happen.

Ill end this with an analogy. Ive had this in my head for awhile. Everytime I go into Wal Mart, I see that you can buy a 20oz coke for 1.50$ by all of the check out lines. Then if you progress further back into the store you see that there are 1 liter cokes for 99 cents.

I feel like RED is the 1 liter.

Just want to point out that a high-end Panasonic Varicam P2 4:4:4 10-bit capable camcorder (HD only) (body only) is $59,950. The next model down is $39,950. I would assume that includes an EVF but no batts or memory cards, so it's basically a brain.

The brain of the Epic-M is $39,500 and would be available for sale fairly soon, I imagine (only the package is on the store at the moment). Incidentally, the price of the full M-package is the same as an optioned up Chevy Tahoe.

Just saying.

+1 . Well said

We should all be thanking Jim for the price DECREASES on Epic X!

If you measure the value of the US Dollar against Gold ($1593 oz!), the price of the Epic X is actually coming DOWN significantly !!!!

Ok, I may have these prices slightly wrong but I think I'm pretty close. Tried to combine a bit of the stage 2 kit and epic-m kit

Epic x Brain and PL Ti, ssd module, 5" touchscreen, REDmote, Module Adopter, Pro Battery Module, 4 redvolt, 4 128gb REDmag ssd, travel charger, Bomb EVF, side Handle, Pro i/o and case

$50,175 pre 2012. Which at this point is, I think, £31,105.

That's a bit of a bargain isn't it? Can't think of another camera that is even close. Still a bit out of my price range but I can always dream :)
