We should all be thanking Jim for the price DECREASES on Epic X!

If you measure the value of the US Dollar against Gold ($1593 oz!), the price of the Epic X is actually coming DOWN significantly !!!!

It's going down even more compared to some other extremely overvalued stocks! ;)

Compared to oil it's practically free!

If the M is out of your price range there is the X, if the X is out of your price range there is the S, if the S is out of your price range there is the Scarlet Cinema, if that is out of you price range then there is the Scarlet fixed, and if that is out of you price range, then get a Canon 7D....

I guess in the midst of price changes and spec updates we sometimes forget that REDs most expensive camera, the Epic M, is half the price of an Alexa and so much better. The RED team are making the best camera for your money and I don't think they are just in it to make money off of these camera. I think they are in it because they want all of us to make amazing images with them, so they can be proud of their camera, so that people will use them on major motion pictures, so that they can say they played a huge huge huge part in converting the film world into digital and doing it with dignity and respect. They didn't settle for 1080p, they really didn't settle for anything. They respected how film looked and wanted to match that in the digital realm and help people like us, who otherwise would never ever have such easy in making a feature movie or a short movie.

In the end they are helping us in everyway possible... Of course there are price increases. There are price increases in everything. It's just how things happen.

Ill end this with an analogy. Ive had this in my head for awhile. Everytime I go into Wal Mart, I see that you can buy a 20oz coke for 1.50$ by all of the check out lines. Then if you progress further back into the store you see that there are 1 liter cokes for 99 cents.

I feel like RED is the 1 liter.

Well said! Whatever the price will be for the SCARLET's and the EPIC-S, it's still gonna be amazingly cheap for what you'll get.

Im assuming you are referring to the people who were worried about the price increase of the EPIC-S.

Michael, Well said but point missed. People (including me) were hoping for a S35 Camera priced at 12-13K and we are asking and worried about that number (12-13K) going up and hoping to lock in that price. If the price goes up, Dang I guess ill need to look elsewhere. The point of asking is for planning for the future.

I hope that eventually RED is able to shift production of Scarlet and EPIC-S to Asia and decrease prices over time, but judging from their policy of maintaining prices over the years (such as with the RED One) I don't see it happening.

Kyle, im in your boat. I am buying the Epic S, and as much as I don't want a price increase, it is probably going to happen. I know exactly how you feel because for each penny it goes up, thats a penny I have to cut from accessories or other things. So trust me, I know. My comment wasn't stated towards you, who were just asking about the price, it was for people who were complaining about it. I myself have asked the price on the particular thread. Sorry if you thought my harshness was directed towards you!

Michael, Cool man. I clearly miss understood who you were responding to. It probably will happen I agree, but how much... I just wish that I could have it now vs later (thats the little buy who can't wait inside), but thats what we all want. I guess in hindsight, Knowing that a product is being developed is better than not knowing at all.

Where is the SCAR>>>>>>>>>>>>>?

Jim: "5. Stage 3 will reflect similar changes to the package as Stage 2. Stage 3 package price is $28,000 less $17,500 and trade in your non-executed RED ONE. Net due is $10,500."

Stage 3 is a package and exempt from the EPIC-X brain only increase on Jan 1.

Thanks Brent for the clarify, and thanks for all the past problem solving via email ;)

Wow. Way to look out for number one Thomas. I guess those people in Southern California don't need those jobs.
Also, every nickel you save by someone moving something offshore, rest assured a higher part of your (increased) taxes go to policing, the judicial system, and other government mechanisms that
have to deal with the fallout from higher unemployment.

I'll take greater consumer surplus thank you very much.

Tom, disregarding inflation/deflation, I see it a little different from you. I think we of Stage 2 and Stage 3 should be thanking Red for the price increase. After Jan 1, our cameras will have just gone up in resale value. Unless a camera has been abused, it's possible it may never bring less than the amount paid for it... like I said, disregarding monetary fluctuations.

I, for one, hope that Red does not move production to Asia. For a variety of reasons.

But I also think your reasoning is wrong here. Red's prices are going to increase because the prices of parts (from Asia) have increased and do not show signs of returning to their former levels.

A note to Jim. You can preverse tabs by inserting text in a code block. Click the # icon on the editor toolbar to see what I mean.
Otherwise, select a monospace font (like Courier New, Consolas or Monaco) and use spaces instead of tabs.

You can't bold or have any formatting with a code block. Forums strip out superfluous spaces, even in monospaced fonts.

Only really reliable way to indent with forums is through the ol' hidden ............ trick, which is exactly what Jim did.

I, for one, hope that Red does not move production to Asia. For a variety of reasons.

The world's largest mobile manufacturing facility is in Chennai, India. If you want low cost, high quality and high productivity and hence increased shareholder value creation and customer satisfaction, then shifting production is the answer. However, emotion is something different.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi

Thank you kindly for that comprehensive update Jim...very generous, and the increases are understandable.

Question:

A significant number of DSMC camera owners/users who shoot hybrid, EFP, and stills will want to use Canon or Nikon lenses exclusively on Epic - at least until the Red Electronic Lenses and mount are ready. I'm one of those. A PL mount is basically useless to most of of us who shoot these styles, because we virtually never use PL mount cine lenses.

Could there somehow be an option when buying an Epic to simply select which mount we'd like as the "stock" mount on the new camera? That would be incredibly cool...even if there needs to be a differential payment to get the Canon or Nikon mount as the stock mount.
Add me to the list.

Hi,
Are you thinking of an 'extended warranty package' or '2 years protection plan' at an extra price for EPI-X?
Thanks
Harcharan

would non-red owners be given an oppertunity to purchase an epic-x before the end of the year or do these prices only apply to those with stages?
