  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SICK of all the [FS:] thread noise. Totally fixable.

I know I'm not the only one, but I've almost stopped coming to RedUser because there is so much [FS:] trash in the 'New Posts' feed.

RedUser used to be a great place for discussion but frankly it is just a big mess of classified ads. Every other freaking post is a [FS:]! It's like digging through hundreds of stupid advertising and grocery store coupons in the Sunday paper just to find Calvin and Hobbes. Just the other day the Jarred posted the Exodus trailer and it was on the forth page the day it was posted.

For those of you in a position of influence, it's TOTALLY possible to filter the 'New Posts' with a plugin to vBulletin. I'm on a boards that offer this feature, and it's great.

Even better, just exclude the [FS:] section from 'New Posts' for everyone and make a separate 'New FS' button.




Thanks. I'd love to see RedUser get back to its roots instead of the current messy garage sale.

I wish I could filter out all the ads. Especially all the 'bumping' of the ads.

Might make sense to consolidate these on one thread?

Not a fan of the excessive FS threads either. I'd love a user preset to filter them out.
 
Not sure I even know what you guys are talking about? FS=For Sale? Adds like popups?
 
Brent has voiced his support for this (if I don't mix it up)

But it would be great to have the option to filter the adds out of "check recent posts" search, at least...
 
I think my brain has created a filter, I dont see them, even thoug they're right there, in between the posts. :)
 
Just exclude the for sale section from the new posts search... Problem solved. They do make the new posts feature much less useful.
 
I also agree on having a 'New posts' button that would filter out all the market place... And the addition of a 'New posts in Market Place' button.

Then we we would have the good old REDuser back without loosing the REDsellers section when needed...

I've pretty much adapted the same way, and on occasion I'll look past the FS designation to see what is for sale.

But I've also adapted to filtering out many other types of threads the same way I do the FS threads. That is, if the title sounds interesting I may mouse over the title to see if that first sentence gets my attention, and if it does I may open it up.

I've adapted, but I have no objection to other solutions.

Alternatively, create a custom group list in the user profile and create a New Posts (Custom) button that searches for new posts against that list.
 
Yeah, I agree with this sentiment totally. Would be great if the FS threads or the whole Marketplace section as it is, could be treated separately and not show up in new posts or general searches and would have its own interface for that. It's even become difficult to find FS posts within those sections because of the traffic flow.
 
Just thought of something. Give FS posts a use-by date. That is, a new FS post stays active on the "New Posts" page for x number of days before it is relegated to an archive file that keeps it active for anyone wanting to just check that from time to time.

That solves the problem of too many bumps and still allows see-it want-it shoppers to see the sale item and another solution for those seeking specific items for sale.
