  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

shut up and shoot that Scarlet

Some nicely captured pictures there Christopher. Looks really good for ungraded footage.

I know you weren't impressed with the Canon 18-135mm but I don't mind it, if just accepting it's particular look for what it is.

I agree with the general consensus that if you're shooting below 4k you really need to pay attention to what you're shooting, and how, in order to minimize the apparent quality loss.

Thanks for showing some more of what the Scarlet Dragon is capable of, as you say there wasn't/isn't a big variety of real world footage available to check out.

…multiple images of same subject…

Les, have you considered to upload to Flickr and use one image to link to the set?

Since these are creative expressions (beauty is in the eye of the beholder) and not technical comparisons, maybe you could single out one or two images from each "stream"?

Otherwise, please expand your thinking on publishing so many similar images.

No worries Andree, was just shooting and sharing, for a variety of reasons.

Wasn't thinking of it as publicizing anything. I'm not interested in signing up to Flickr or using this thread as a way of getting people to look at my pictures somewhere else. Some of the stuff was just posted to keep the thread alive, and none of it is meant to be taken that seriously.

I thought all the pictures did have a technical aspect to them though, in terms of how they were shot and edited. But then at the same time I wasn't looking at this thread as being one meant for technical comparisons either, so...

I can see that I've posted some similar shots, and that the differences between the individual images could be considered insignificant, but I look at that as a matter of individual perception that a person has to make their own mind up about. It may be that I've gone too far at times in letting people decide for themselves whether those sometimes subtle differences are interesting, but you're the first person who's actually said anything to that effect, so, sorry if I've been pissing people off without realizing it.

I must admit though, your own post does strike me as being a bit trollish and judgmental. Being asked to expand my thinking, based on your particular definition of what's happening here, seems a bit rough too. So I'm a bit conflicted/confused by your contribution. You seem reasonable and are offering solutions to what you see as a problem worth trying to do something about, but I'm just not sure there is a problem or that I need to justify myself here.

I think perhaps the forum moderators should have some input in this. Maybe some rules or guidelines need to be set in regards to how many pictures people are allowed to post. I have actually been making an effort to limit the amount of pictures I've been posting here, but maybe I was off the mark or stepped over some line I wasn't aware of. It doesn't bother me if I have to curb or redirect my enthusiasm for what the Scarlet can do, even though I myself would like to see more people posting more examples here of whatever it is they're doing with the camera's, not less.

Edit - Thanks Sam. I know what you mean about the vaporware effect, but I just figure people are too busy to post what they've shot, or are working on things they're not allowed to share, or find their results just don't translate into screenshots or online video's, or something. Most of my own pictures posted here are just the result of playing around and exploring things and are done while doing something else at the same time, or while waiting for something else to happen. I can see why that wouldn't add up for a lot of people.

Andree seems to go through bad days recently regarding the negativeness of his posts. I don't even understand why he's coming to this specific thread as, in another thread, he wishes Red to drop the scarlet and seems to just think that the canon 1Dc is the best thing to own anyway. Les, I don't always understand the subtelties of the different grabs you post but i'm glad you're posting them. Everybody here promises grabs and footages and bts and films when they are close to receive their camera or when they have it and we see nothing coming. Vaporware everywhere. Andree's post is bothering me, not yours.

Looks great Eric. I like the bold lighting and deliberate production design. That second picture in particular looks like a work of art.

Where I come from Les is pronounced with a Z not a SS, and tee hee is considered a snickering kind of laugh.

It looks to me like you're both doing nothing more than thread-crapping by dropping snide one-liners at my expense.

Forums are open to miscommunication and misunderstandings at the best of times, so sorry if I'm not reading this right, but if you've got something to say, say it straight and clear, thanks.
