  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Shot on RED - Raven

Thank everything that is good and holy! Finally, some Raven footage where one understands the basic concept of exposure. I was beginning to consider the notion that I missed something in regards to the cut used for the Raven sensor and was going to move our 2 orders to the Scarlet-W just to err on the side of safety.

First Raven shoot

First Raven shoot

Our company bought a Raven and wanted to see what it could do so I shot this short piece on the creative process of cooking. Not a huge budget so we just suspended one "fume hood" style soft box overhead and peppered the background with a source four. Canon L-series 24-70mm and 100mm macro for lenses, GoPro used for blender shot. Shout out to The Mill for coloring a fun a project!

Enjoy, "Lobsters By The Pool"

Cool video! nicely done :-) what lenses? Also, I see you have Scarlet-X, how do you compare it to the Raven? would you prefer the Raven over it?

Lenses listed. I love my Scarlet and it has served me well over the years but if the Raven was an option back then I would have gone for it. High frame rates and the Dragon sensor are a steal at the price. I'm holding on to my Scarlet for all PL lens shoots, that's my only issue with the Raven (canon mount only).

Oh, yes, you did list the lenses, sorry! PL mount is important I feel, but many of the new generation lenses that used to be PL only are coming out with PL/EF mount.

Thanks Brent- I'm surprised how accurate the display is. I'm digging going back to the "what you see is what you get" days and then being able to retroactively manipulate the raw data however I want.

Hey everyone, nothing fancy, but here is a recent piece I did for one of my clients. Artist profile on illustrator Ethan Murrow. All footage off Raven.

A few days ago, I did my first "real" test on my Raven with a victoria secret-esque beauty shoot as a personal project. Though I'm a director, I also wanted to showcase my DP abilities for hire as well as the slowmo capabilities of the camera. I shot the whole project at 4.5k at 60fps with some at 95 and 120fps, ISOs ranged from 640-1600 (and some at 2000). I really am impressed with the skin tones, lighting started to fall apart in the splashing scenes but the rest of it I'm happy with. Please let me know what you think and if you have critiques!

P.S. - off topic, I was not impressed at all with the test video that came from the new 8k helium sensor "Underdog". It didn't look much different from footage I have been getting from the Raven which is the entry level camera of the brand. I would expect the highest level unit of the brand (that costs a million times more) to blow the Raven away but I did not see that at all. Now who's ready to fight me? lol

I couldn't disagree more. The footage from the Helium was incredible. It was the first thing I've ever seen shot on Red that didn't scream SHOT ON RED! If someone had told me it was shot on Alexa, I would have bought it--the skin tones were so natural. As someone who wants the more organic Alexa colors in a tiny Red body, shooting R3D at true 4K+, the Helium looks awesome. Also, much cleaner than any other image I've seen from a Red (which came as a HUGE surprise).

And anyone who looks at my post history knows I am not a fan boy by any means, and I often criticize Red for certain things. But that footage... it made me really excited to see where Red is headed.

Please stick to topic on this thread. We are talking Raven here, not Helium. Other threads to talk about Helium. Thanks!

Hey Guys,
Just got done shooting Outsidelands in San Fransisco. Absolutely loving this camera. Have a few more gigs this month mostly commercials and short films. Hopefully I can share some motion soon. Sorry for the shitty jpgs :)

Started a doc feature this past weekend in Lauderdale Mississippi. This is Lecile Harris. He's Turning 80 this year and has been doing what he loves for over 60 years. He was a bullfighter into his 50's and still entertains sold-out crowds with his comedy. His reflections on life and love can be an inspiration to us all. I can't wait to share more. Working on this film has already changed me in profound ways. Red Raven 4k 60fps.

Nice shot. Excited to see more.

You had me at "splashing scenes"... :w00t:

PS - On topic: your footage looks really, really nice.

Finished shooting a car show last Saturday in San Francisco and nearing completion. Here is a couple screen grabs. The Raven sure creates some great images =)

Those look amazing.

Do you think you could share a few R3Ds for us to play around with?
