  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sharp 32" PN-K321

Houkouonchi, Thank you for the very useful Linux installation info. I installed the PN-K321 monitor on a Windows 7 machine with a Radeon HD card to test it out. The installation was straightforward, but I am disappointed in the outcome. It has twice the pixels as the Dell 3011 it replaced, but I prefer the 3011.

Let me know if you ever get a chance to try the display out on nvidia/linux (if you still have it).

ASUS has announced a 32-inch 4K (a re-brand of this Sharp model it would seem) IGZO UHD display with 10-bit color. They also have a 39-inch model coming as well. Price remains unknown.

I returned the PN-K321 today.... Hopefully some company will announce a compelling 4k+ monitor soon.

Anyone with the screen have problems with light bleeding from the bottom of the screen. I've had two of these screens already and both have yucky white hot spots at the bottom edge of the screen. what a god damn waste of money this screen was.. *sigh*

Asus better have some magical fixes for this when they start selling their version of it or they will be taken to the shed and there will be no lube involved in what happens next.

So far the images I've seen of the ASUS show a re-labled PN-K321, but I have seen a couple pics where they had a different base on the stand. lol... Not sure what will actually ship. I do have direct confirmation it's the same display as the PN-K321.

My 'K321 that I sent back had light leaks in the bottom corners. Build quality overall was OK, quality control on screen assembly is crap. Image quality, other than pixels, was rather disappointing. Not worthy of the $5K I spent on it, so I had to return it. I'd pick up another one right now if I could do so for UNDER $1K. And that's what they will be selling for within a year. I'll wait.

The ASUS one should have a street price right about $3200 at launch. Or so I hope.

I have a 3rd replacement coming (my last) - but I don't expect the bottom bleeding light to be any better... this is going to be a costly paper weight soon.

is the bottom the only light source? or just fail build quality on the bottom?

It's edge-lit all the way around. Quality control on screen assembly for these is a total FAIL. FWIW, QC on screen assembly seems to be a major issue with all edge-lit displays on the market right now.

Man I would really be pissed if I spent that much and had those problems =( You probably can't return it now either due to the fact its been RMA'd I am assuming? I am curious if you have tried to push higher pixel clock over it using a single link to see if you can get higher than 30hz without MST mode.

I also asked you this on the hard forum thread but didn't get a response.

You definitely need Displayport 1.2 with MST mode to get higher than 30Hz on the PN-K321. If you use Displayport 1.1, you're stuck with 30Hz.

Well obviously the EDID will only list whatever modes it wants. What I am asking is did someone actually try with a custom modeline pushing more over it?

what? you didn't read thru all the billion posts on hardocp :) but yes, I did try screwing with the pixel rate - the titan hard locked before I got anything useful. I don't think the monitor will input anything higher than 31hz anyway @ 4k (with a single input).

i'm just hoping NVidia get the 325 drivers out so I can use 60hz - and save money to buy a oled 4k monitor next year.

is there any trick a person could do it fix the bottom part of the screen?

I did read through that entire sharp thread on hardocp but I will admit it was slowly as things were added to it. I don't remember you mentioning you had tried to force a higher refresh rate or that the machine locked up. So if it locked up were you actually able to get your machine to output at higher refresh rate or were you not able to do custom modes at all?

I unlocked the custom NVidia settings - I thought I put the number that locked my screen on the hardocp thread (but I might not have) - but it was a double FU. The cards locked and the screen shouldn't take input over 31hz.

I keep trying higher vysnc... 32, 33, 34, 35, etc.. "Input not supported" blah blah from the screen. That at some point the PC would just lock when the pixel clock got to high.
I was going to try the DVI -> hdmi to see if the pixel clock could go higher on that interface vs DP or HDMI - but by that point the screen had broken my spirits already

It was over 470 pixel clock that the titan locked. 470 didn't lock it. I don't recall what I test above it. 500 will lock the card (I'm tri-sli too)

good news.. got my replacement screen and no bleeding from the bottom!

A 470 Mhz pixelclock would be enough to push over 50 Hz at 3840x2160 though or did it just say input mode not accepted for all of them?

The screen wouldn't take anything higher the 31hz (via DP @ 4k)... ugh NVidia.. plz release 325 drivers ^_^

looks like 326.41 did the job for the sharp.. ugh.. after 3 months i can finally use this monitor.
