  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Shane's Inner Circle

Sending pw via email can be discussed, but Facebook does it and most likely more harm can be done on there then on "Shane's inner circle" that like the outer circle has no real Weapon info... ;-)

Facebook email you a secure link through which you can reset your password. They only store your password in a one-way hashed form; the original cleartext input is irretrievable.

Anyway, the point here is that despite all warnings to the contrary, people still tend to use the same credentials across multiple sites, so if Hurlbut's Intimate Circle is compromised, then people's accounts on other (more sensitive) sites are at risk.

incorrect, we are talking about REGISTRATON, not FORGOT PASSWORD option - 2 different processes, and therefore different workflows. Facebook emails you your password as plain text when you REGISTER (unless they changed it recently). And there is nothing wrong with that workflow, because the user wants and needs a receipt of his original registration. What password you use and if u use the same password on all sites that is ur problem.

None of this means that the pw is stored as plain text in the db, and again: rather care about ur credit card data.

But let's not bore these good people here any longer, when clearly we all come here for WEAPON info... ;-)

Facebook absolutely DON'T do this. It seems they agree with me that there really is something wrong with that workflow.

If a developer is aware of a certain usage pattern, and implements a vulnerability that puts its users at risk, then it is their problem, in my opinion.

Agreed.

Subscribe to Shane's thing if you want what he has to offer. If you only want info about Weapon, I suspect there will be other, and better, ways to get that.

Like just waiting for NAB

Bahahahaaaaa.....

I'll just leave this here ;)

Can only imagine how embarrassing it must be to lead everyone on for a couple of weeks and then completely fail to deliver.

I suspect Shane is a professional cinematographer and an amateur software developer. Maybe you two should work out a trade.

What I find lame about the "Inner Circle" is that he is charging for what Cinematographers have always done naturally and for free - share information. I didn't look too deep - but "virtual mentorship"? And charging for it? I have volunteered for the Canadian Society of Cinematographers for 10+ years now and considerate it a duty to "foster" the art of cinematography. I especially enjoy talking to "up and coming" DP's and helping out with knowledge and advice. It is the same kindness and spirit of sharing that helped me become a successful cinematographer. I make my money shooting. I'm not going to charge to impart advice and information to eager, interested young shooters.

My personal thought is that the dude should probably stick to making actual creative content. A podcast now and then is fine, but being part of the show and tell crown cheapens his brand.

Can someone be a respected peer AND a "brand" at the same time?

In this industry, like most, burnishing one's reputation can jack up your earnings - it can also make you a target. Perhaps snarky comments are less annoying on the deck of your beach house…

Definitely part of the Canadian way, as it were, for film. So many generous professionals willing to share. It fosters good relationships.

Dylan - that's an excellent attitude. We need more of that sort of spirit in the industry. And to be fair - I've worked with a lot of A.S.C.'s and they're always generous with their knowledge.

Just look at the quote on Geoff Boyle's site from Conrad Hall;

"There's something about Cinematographers, and the passion we bring to our work, that gives us a sense of being blood brothers. We have a love and admiration for each other, and a desire to help each other out"

The Inner Circle seems to to be a step away from that attitude.

Just a reminder to everyone to please keep the coversation respectful.

This is not aimed at anyone in particular just that threads like this can get out of line and the person being discussed is not a part of it.

I think it's important to respect a fellow colleague, especially since he is not here to give his side. Although I love Dylan's approach to sharing knowledge, we must respect other's approaches as well. There are other ASC members who have elected to take a commercial approach to teaching. As for Weapon announcements, I am awaiting that info from RED.

What I don't get about this possible "misunderstanding Shane's Inner Circle" thing, is that even if Shane did offer some major
info on the WEAPON first, it would still end up here on RedUser 2 seconds later....

+1 .

If you want to know about weapon, Reduser is the place.

If you want to glean pearls of wisdom about cinematography including lighting and other aspects, go to http://www.rogerdeakins.com/forum2/index.php and ask the Master.

And both of the above comes free.
