  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Setting up GROUP BUY for batteries!

So does this mean the final word is that Paglink batts DO send % info?

Yes they do!! If:

You are using the latest firmware on the battery. I am testing this now and will post my full experience when I have driven then for another day.

You also have to have a battery plate that will allow the communication. If your plate works with Red batteries then you are good to go.

Regards

Thanks Michael,

From what I understand... it is all in the wiring on the camera plates. I've spoken with View Factor, and they are very open and honest that their plates do not support this feature. They say it's due to the wire and contacts that were chosen Red. They apparently can'g get the same stuff... Wooden Camera uses the SWIT plate which does indeed pass that info through. This is good news for many. I've been so used to reading the voltage to know when Sony F900's, F800's and Varicams are close, that this is not a "deal breaker" for me... I've used the Voltage method for 20 years. I can certainly understand others though...

Truth is that I could go for 10 to 20 units or more, many more, possibly even up to 50 or 100, since all our LED lighting also runs on V-Lock batteries.

But the price discount really needs to be a good one, do to the fact of two other companies willing to offer a substantial discount. SORRY GUYS, this is absolutely only for my use would not be able to offer discounts to any other.

I need to test this first Curt, what can you arrange in Rome? Even Just 2 of them could do, I have two chargers, one from Bebob Rouge and one form Blue Shape.

PS: You got my mail... ;)

Hey Ketch,

Sending you an email!

Curt - if you manage to get a 20% discount (or more) I will purchase 10 of these… I'm gonna buy them anyway, so I might as well take advantage of a price break.

Question is: do these ship from the UK? or from a U.S. distributor? If from the UK - do they charge VAT on items shipped outside of the UK? Or is it like when I buy from US - not tax on purchase, but Canadian tax on import.

Glen,

These are coming from Manios Digital, THE United States distributor. I can ship them to you in Canada with no issues. If you have your own shipping accounts... even better!

I'll word the question this way- if a battery plate displays % when powered by a Red Brick, will that same plate display % with a Paglink?

Yes! This is how I would phrase it! If you get it from the Red Bricks. You'll get it from PAGlinks!

So does this mean the final word is that Paglink batts DO send % info?

YES! With the latest firmware in the batteries... and the ones we get would have that! IF your plate transmits that info, and to my knowledge ONLY the View Factor APU-IDX plates do not... (this is a wiring thing, according to View Factor... they can't find that cable in the US, and refuse to deal with companies abroad due to their own bad experiences) then you're good to go!

The View Factor plate DOES transmit voltage readings!

Michael,

I'd like to thank you personally for being the test pilot on the %data! The boys at PAG in the UK tell me you're the Chuck Yeager for them. Much appreciated!

Curt, based on final costs i'd be interested in:

Batteries: 4-8
PL16 charger: 1
micro charger: 1

*question: what's difference in the 96e and 96t ?

Johnny,

The 96T has a time indicator readout in terms of "numbers" on the back of the battery. The 96e has a "bar representation" of the time left on the battery. Steve Manios at Manios Digital recommends using a single T, if you want to go that way, and stack the "e" on behind it... the T will show the COLLECTIVE time left.

The T's are more expensive too... I plan on sharing pricing for BOTH!

Stand by... hoping to finalize everything today!

What is the starting price the discount will be based on? I've seen the street price on them here in the US but I'm assuming the discount will be on the Direct buy price from Pag?

Steve,

The pricing on the batteries is based on the US pricing structure from Manios Digital, in Los Angeles. I've dealt with them over the last 15 years, and they are a truly great organization. Steve Manios is top notch, and so is every member of his staff... They are also the US distributors for Cartoni, Vocas, Ewa Marine and Angenieux.

We're very close to having the final pricing! Please bear with me just a bit longer... I have pricing on the batteries, chargers and PowerHubs... I'm now reaching out to "plate" manufacturers to try and include them in the deal too!

The numbers are FINALLY in!

So we're all on the same page: the PAGlink PL96e battery sells for $550. The PL96T sells for $695. The PL 16 (2 position charger) and the CUBE (4-position charger) sell for $767. I am personally interested in the PL96e. I don't think I need the fancy time indicator on the back of the battery... However, Steve Manios at Manios Digital does recommend if you're interested in this feature and are buying several batteries to consider a few of these and the majority of the PL96e's because the PL96t batteries WILL SHOW the collective information of all of your batteries in the stack. Therefore Steve recommends you put the PL96T closest to the device you're powering and use the PL96e's behind it! Smart plan, from a smart guy!

So PAG USA/Manios Digital are willing to provide a 23% discount on the batteries and 21% on the chargers (provided we order at least 20 of each...). The prices will break down as follows:

$425 PL96e Battery (LED time indication in the form of "bars)
$535 PL96T Battery (Numeric time indication)
$575 PL 16 (2-position charger + power supply)
$575 PAG Cube Charger (4-position charger)
$150 PowerHub
$150 Micro Charger

Folks in California and Arizona will have to pay sales tax. I'll be taking in all the orders so that Manios Digital is completely bombarded! We'll accept payment by credit card, money order, or bank transfer, just to keep things simple. I'll make the single group buy payment to Manios Digital.

Many have asked about shipping... these will be shipped from Manios Digital in Los Angeles. There will be a shipping and handling charge assessed as well. Steve Manios is working on "blanket" fees... so if you buy 2 batteries ~ the fee is X, if you buy 4 ~ the fee is X, if you get four batteries and a charger ~ the fee is X... (you get the idea) I'm told these are flat fees anywhere in the USA! Shipping abroad will no doubt incur other fees, I'm sure, and we can approach those as necessary; it may be possible to ship these from London, for those of you in Europe... I'm checking into that.

Many have asked about camera plates as well... I know that PAG is "dangerously close" to having an Epic/Scarlet plate ready to go... I'm not exactly sure when that will be available, as they haven't given a date yet. I have spoken with two other plate manufacturers, and both seem willing to make volume deals if we know exactly how many we're looking for... (one of those plates WILL NOT transmit % data... so if that is a "deal breaker" let me know! The other plate DOES INDEED transmit %data. I've gotten emails from some that say that is a must, others don't care... The "non-data" plate may end up being less expensive...)

So now that everyone is on the same page... let me know.

Best,

Curt

Based on those prices - I'll be in for 6 of the PL96e, 2 of the PL96T, a Cube Charger, a PowerHub, and a Micro Charger.

As long as shipping to Canada isn't ridiculous… but I don't see why it would be.

Glenn,

I don't see why it wouldn't be reasonable... after all.. you're on the same continent! You're our brothers to the North! I've changed your order to reflect this! Thanks for letting me know so quickly! (BTW... are you copying my order! That's what I'm personally down for, EXACTLY!)

Great - Thanks for taking the time to set this up, I hope the others pull through with their orders.

let me know where and when to send along my info to the dealer.

Not trying to stir the pot, but you guys should compare those prices against other equivalent products in the industry(A/B, IDX, Switronix). You'll see that the group buy figures are still around a 10-20% premium compared to other similar products. I'm not trying to push the products of the company I work for, just making sure you guys get the best deal.

The PL96's can only withstand an 8A load unless linked(doubled). These are not "high current" (HC) batteries.

That's fine - in certain shooting situations they tick all the boxes that other batteries don't. These will nicely fit a hole in our equipment room, alongside the batteries that you mention and we already own...

P.S. 'Vinny D' why don't you have your full true name on here like the rest of us?

Hey Curt;
Thanks for putting this together,
Question:
According to there web https://www.paguk.com/catalog/84

PAG link PL96e Batteries and Micro Charger Package;
2 batteries and 1 charger is USD$ 964.17 (598 GBP)

And REDuser discount;
2 batteries and 1 charger is USD$ 1000

I was expecting above PAG link Package to be 20% less for REDusers (ship from US)

Am I missing some thing?
