  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hey I heve been hammered with much of the same questions over the last week so thought I would answer a few of them here all at once.

First of all thank you to everyone for a pretty incredible V-Raptor launch last week.. We worked pretty hard on this camera and it really is our best yet... We can't wait for you all that ordered the stormtroopers to get them and start shooting and see for yourself and start sharing footage. Which leads to the first 2 questions.

Q1: When do the White Raptors ship?

Excited to say that Stormtroopers start shipping out in truckloads next Friday, and will continue to do so over about a 2-3 week period. The stormtrooper Raptors are all sold out and accounted for, so if you missed out on ordering and still want a Raptor you need either find/bribe a dealer as they get them or wait for the black version.

Q2: When do black Raptors start taking orders? and when do they ship ?

We will start taking interest requests tomorrow for the black Raptors on RED.com, and many of our dealers which have not already started will officially start their black Raptor lists as well. We HOPE to start shipping black cameras at the end of October.

Q3: Where is my Komodo that I ordered?

Komodos are shipping every day, but are also in heavy backorder as demand is far overtaking supply. And the supply chain is still a Clusterfu*k, Globally. It really is a roller coaster ride, our Manufacturing and supply chain seem to get a new shortage every week. If they can't find/order/bribe parts from any other source, engineering does a rolling re-design to make a different component work and that sticks till something else falls into a shortage, and it's a viscous, expensive cycle. Very expensive.. combined with shipping rates which are insane right now, don't be surprised if Komodo's price goes up in the coming months, as the cost to make them continues to go the wrong way. If you already have an order in your price wont increase but new orders may, I will try and give a bit of a heads up if that does become inevitable. So anyways to answer that question, it's really unknown. We are not standing still, We are making them as fast as we can and shipping them as fast as we can , And the " My Komodo finally came after 4 bloody months " posts probably will go on for awhile still.

Q4: I won't order a Raptor till I see footage. Where can I see footage?

This is an easy one... you can't technically order a Raptor right now :) Honestly though, that's probably the "responsible" thing to do and if you are asking that question you should indeed wait. Even though myself and our product/production/engineering team have been shooting Raptor for many, many months we really did our best ( i.e I really tried my best ) not to leak this one out ahead of time so we didn't take Raptor out in public and parade it around on a bunch of sets before launch and the whole Covid thing made that pretty easy to adhere to. You saw a few people last week that have had access to cameras and they have been doing their own very quiet tests, Phil was one of them and has been kind enough to share some of his. I am sure next weekend when people start getting cameras the footage will be plenty.

Any other Questions?

I'm out of Raptor questions, but it's nice to see you back on Reduser, so here's one related to peripherals: why do you put the pan hinge on your monitors above the tilt hinge? This has always perplexed me.

So you can fold the monitor forward or back onto itself and flip the monitor for high / low shooting or to get the monitor over the lens... as well as rotate for AC's without a huge sweep interference. How else would you do it?

Pan below tilt so you can rotate it towards you then tilt to the required angle.

Since the Raptor's SDI ports are 12G, I assume we will still need to follow the recommended connection procedure to prevent damage to them.

1. Has anything been done to make the Raptor's SDI ports more resilient than those on the Komodo?
2. Are the 2 ports independent? ie if one blows, will the other keep functioning?

A bit off topic again, but I'm loving the Komodo's BP batteries and I don't need all the ins and outs, but I would really like to shoot 8K full frame. Any chance that the V-Raptor VV sensor will make it into a smaller, Komodo-size body, with BPs and lower frame rates?

we have sucked every possible amp out of those BP batteries.. there is no way they could drive more

that port isnt fast enough to record the max framerate, but you can offload via it.

New here, but that's a pretty BIG deal, no? Means you could shoot, offload, format. Rinse, wash, repeat. Obviously not the most ideal workflow, but nonetheless helpful if needed.

This is a great feature for situations where a quick turnaround is needed and no card reader at hand. Brilliant.
