  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet...

Terry, I am basing that on Jarred's post here: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?p=674597#post674597

Scarlet is part of the DSMC system so if they aren't making a CF module for Epic they aren't for Scarlet either. It just goes against the whole RED philosophy to make a CF module for Scarlet but somehow disable it on Epic.

This way they only have to make one type of side module (economy of scale) and people can still use CF cards with the CF adapter for the SSD module.

Yeah, I see what you are saying but Jarred's comment still seems a bit ambiguous. It does make sense that they would want to standardize the module, though. So I think you are probably right that there will be SSD modules, CF adaptors and both kinds of media.

Jarred is clearly talking about Epic. "We will not be making a side CF module for Epic". Seems pretty straightforward to me, but inconclusive with regard to Scarlet. I will await clarification.

SSD will be the only media module for Scarlet 2/3". There will be a CF adapter for the SSD module if you still want to use those. There will also be an adapter to plug in the old RED drives.

I was under the same impression as Justin. There were some other posts out there that lead me to that conclusion, but I don’t remember where they are. Sorry I know that’s not very helpful. I thought they said somewhere (or alluded) that the SSD module had dropped in price since they weren’t going to make the CF module anymore?

This is as off topic as it can be, but I think your avatar is f***ing hilarious!

Yes, definitely off topic but since you asked...That's one of my somewhat amusing pair of Beagles. I laugh every time I see that pic. Glad you like it.

One thing I don't understand. Why have a rear end module and side module. What good does it to have both?

So you can hot swap the SSD mags. A pretty neat feature if you ask me but some may not justify the added expense. Its another neat way modularity really lets you customize your camera to your needs.

Q: What happens if you have both the side and rear module? Can it record to both simultaneously? Or does it just run them serially (i.e. fills up the side SSD first, then the module SSD #1, then module SSD #2)?

We Scarlet fans are still eagerly awaiting that "big news" that is coming!!! :bigear:

Yeah, Scarletuser has become a not so fun place to hang. I only drop in there occasionally now, and usually refrain from posting.
