Why's it so important, Gunleik?

Because... the motions are soooo smooth compared to anything out there.

CMOS horizontal-motion in combination with

a) deep focus
b) some contrast (not neccesarily very high)
c) vertical lines

leaves a lot to be desired.

Different cameras have different "latitude" for these occations, and there's different things that make them freak out/collapse. But one are quickly boardering on these issuses.

The ASC panning advices are good, but CMOS's seems more flimsy and less universally predictable than film in this respect.

Robust horizontal motion without ugly artifacts is just... lovely?

Look at that fire-engine in the vegas-clip and the "too fast" pans over the house-corners, and try to recreate that with any camera you may have acces to...

People will get used to this too fast to even remember what it used to be like...

Yup...

That's a cool side-effect for VFX shots...

But remembering that most shots actually aren't VFX shots, it's cool that this is a generally desireable and available feature, not only for VFX applications.

The added 3 "defaultish" stops in the top, that Deanan hinted at as a "standard" setting, will come in very handy, too, if you're out of ND's on a one-man-band-shoot.

It's sideeffect on how viewers will experience focus, is also mildly exciting.

It's just too much to list. But Magic Motion is da works!

HDRx included for Scarlet is a great news for additional $1000!

Nothing comes free and as an users we completely agree you and support else the trust of believing in technology is not worth!

We completely believe RED for delivering SCARLET asap.

Great, thanks!
DR, HDR, magic motion, resolution, raw, feel, vfx and coloring advantages, this is sooooo good! And in a small package. Image acquisition is now catching up with the democratization process of the audio world. The SSD prices will hopefully drop soon :-)
What remains to be seen for my shooting scenarios is the quality of image stabilization and auto focus. Can't wait.

At the other end of the production process, I wish that someone would revolutionize the backup industry and prices, too.

We have decided to add $1000 to the price of Scarlet and include HDRx™ capability. The extra money will go to more boards and another ASIC plus development. The improvement is more than worth the effort. The image possibilities and capability are incredible.

We watched the voting, but more than that we know how much improvement HDRx™ is to the program.

It will only cause a slight delay in the program. You need to trust on this one...

Jim

YAAAY!

BTW, are you referring to Scarlet 2/3rds w fixed lens... 2/3rds with interchangeable lens... or S35 or FF35?

In the case of S35 or FF35 does that mean that the brains can also run at 48fps for normal footage? That would be awesome but I won't get greedy if they don't.

Anyway, all the best with your product launch! Can't wait :)

this is the right move. I for one am pleased and excited. Looking forward to shooting my next feature with scarlet.

My post count is low, but only because I edit all day every day. Check out the trailer to the movie that i am working on. Nov. 19 release date.

cheers!

Great news,

I can't see why people even compare that overpriced, avchd panasonic cam with Scarlet.
Talk about bang for your buck. I know I'll have spent my money wisely. Thank you RED for making this possible!

All the best!

Thank Christ I bought the 7D the week after the last delivery date on the Scarlet was announced. It was about now we were going to see it wasn't it???

Best advice I ever got...
'Don't wait for the next big thing. Just go out and shoot something.'

I am starting to wonder, however, if the gap in price between Scarlet and Epic is worth the diminishing gap in features.

Resolution, Framerates and the superior processing power of the Epic computer inside, which allows for more creativity and superior quality is worth "a couple o millions" ...

But everybody has his own reality and the cameras are not equal for everyone.

I see a clear use for a couple of SCARLETs in my work plus i would not want to miss what EPIC offers at no cost. Scarlet is a gift from RED.

These babies are full of suprises for many, for others its just natural to have this stuff (what we know from the specs and reading between the lines) and in my impression, nothing has really changed since the first idea and questions may have came up in Jims mind:

Lets imagine:
What would the best digital cinema camera do?
How would it work?
How to make it happen?

... (and the other things HE says :-)

This project is purpose driven.

Jim, Red, please correct me if i am wrong.

Personally, on a higher level, i think you are doing this work just for me ... hehehe ;-) ....
materializing a dream born in the 80ies ....
but i know, i am not dreaming alone - which is the beauty of it ... :-)

The many "me" all over the world, we are all dreaming together. And YOU, RED make it happen.

Thanks. Really :-)

As i told Ted in Rome, while holding the Epic body in my innocent hands .... lol ...
"i´ve been waiting and dreaming about the Epic for over 20 years." He said: "me too"

love, health and inspiration to all

Here is a question that I really hope someone answers.

Will HDRx on Scarlet require SSD?

If I am paying an extra $1000 for HDRx, I need to know if I also have to budget $4000+ to use it.

Great news!

Will the better processing power allow it higher non-HDR framerates or longer shots with the burst mode enabled as well?

Jojo

I think this is the end of Scarlet (Fixed 2/3") for me. I started the dream with the Scarlet 3K for $3K. I had no problem with the extra features and money when it went to $4.750. But I was already at $8.600 with the extra features (Module Adapter, SDD Module 1.8", Red Station 1.8", RED Mag 1.8" 128GB). And I thing this extra $1.000 is just the end. I still hope I can explain this extra, but...
I'm happy for all you guys how will have fun with it. Enjoy and keep on creating great movies.

Extra info 11/10/2010 :
EPIC and Scarlet are modular systems. So I can start with the 'basic ' model (Scarlet Fixed with no extentions). And after some time, when everything is working just fine, I can add extra modules like the SSD 1.8" module, a RED Mag 1.8" 128GB,...
Yes, thanks to the RED Team and the way they have build it, I can start small and think big...

Amen! Someone that is talking sense.

Don't count on getting a Scarlet before 2012. An opinion from an realist.

Peace

Also, from what I understand the high shutter speed stream will also significantly aid optical flow analysis for 3D work, making software convergence and such much more accurate and acceptable.

Will HDRx™™ on Scarlet require SSD?

If I am paying an extra $1000 for HDRx™™, I need to know if I also have to budget $4000+ to use it.

that's a good question. I'm an epic stage2 but see a lot of my customers being potential Scarlet purchasers. I kind of hope that this will allow RED to simply go in the direction of making SSD the default across the board.

I voted no on the pull but im really happy with the decision. This monday I will shoot a comercial in a car showroom with big windows. Its going to be a little bit of nightmare with all incoming light from outside. The HDRx™ would have been a great tool for this. I soo looking forward to this feature. Thumbs up!
