  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet X Data Sheet

Thanks, Phil. Lots of useful info on the page. Do you have the specific power draw for the Scarlet camera without any accessories being powered?

Not yet, but I'm equally curious on that front for setups involving other brand's powered EVFs and side handles. Very curious to see the draw of the 5.0" LCD Touch and how it effects battery life.

Hi Phil,
So if I can use a V-mount battery of 225Wh, could I use any V-mount battery on the market, for example a 95Wh batt too?

Any V-mount battery should work. I've been using ones that are 98Wh at 14.8V output.

That's an interesting device Sean. You'll need to find some sort of adapter/power cable, but the voltage is there. At that price though I'd spring for a V-Mount solution with a single charge cable rather than a multiple battery charger.

Hey guys, sorry that i am new to this. Just curious about the crop factor in relation to the recording resolution.. That sounds like digital zoom.. why can't it get crop factor of 1 and records at the the resolution you want? To avoid the line skipping artifact?

It is "technically" a digital zoom, but it indeed opens up faster frame rates to you. There is no line skipping at an of the resolution modes that Scarlet records out.

Phil, thanks for the reply and the very useful thread.
That just changes everything, didn't expect that.

Recording 2k @ 60fps will be very tricky.. We are back to the APS-C / 4/3" / S-16 practice again.

What can you use the 5K 12fps mode for? Is that perfect for time lapses?

While that's certainly a good use for it, I think it's more there for stills and less for motion...

EDIT: also, incredibly helpful chart. I'm trying to figure out the logistics of adapting a 3k 48fps workflow, though in a similar fashion to GWTDT (though instead of padding for 4k-to-3k, padding for 3k-to-2k) and this has definitely been useful. I am going to need some very wide lenses.

Thanks Phil for all the sharing you do! This is really awesome insight and all these overview at our fingertips.

Added a link to the Adobe Red Importer needed by Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, Adobe After Effects CS5.5, and Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5 in order to work with Red .R3D files natively.

Adobe Red Importer
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/redepic_importer/

**Currently does not support the REDCINE-X Pro features under "Post:Look:Effect".
**Update coming soon from Adobe.

** Added:

Black shading is really only required when there are changes in sensor temperature or for long shutter speeds. It is a good idea to let the camera come up to temp before black shading.

Black shading (Default) is good for most situations, including high speed.

Black shading (Current FPS/Exposure) is intended for slow frame rates and long shutter speeds.

Also, if you look at the system configuration screen.. the sensor temperature and shutter speed is shown for your user calibration.

Just checked the Scarlet page on RED.com again and discovered this in the specs section

Any rumors out there about when we might expect 3kHD?
I'd love to be able to switch from 4kHD to 3kHD within projects in order to extend the zoom range of my RPZ 17-50...

Thank you sooooo much for this Phil. Really helps a lot. So much easier to visualize the constraints now.
