  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet-W has Begun...

I'm using hypercore slims and the red bricks. As far as i can tell noise is really an issue bellow 2000 iso. Shot at 1600 for a while and it looked great
you mean noise is not an issue below 2000 hopefully…
are you using the vlcok expander with those batteries?

been shooting with the scarlet w since friday and all i can say is that im in love. as a first time red own its pretty nuts what the camera can do and for this price point its ridiculous. I couldn't be happier with the camera.
Good to hear! Any test clips you could upload for us to play with? :)

Congrats Foster. Quick question, did you order just the body or the package? What time stamp were you?

Thanks

ooooooh that's great to hear. Maybe some R3D Snapshots? A clip would be awesome though!

Finally heard back from RED regarding batteries...

Hi Brandon,

Glad to hear the RED BRICKs worked on your end!

It's likely that the third party batteries that you're using are not compatible. Here is a link to our FAQ that goes over what third-party batteries are compatible with the DSMC2 BASE I/O V-LOCK EXPANDER:
https://support.red.com/entries/97497237-RED-Batteries

Hopefully this helps!

Seems like a lot of us with third party batteries (even Switronix in certain cases) are SOL.

This is disheartening to say the least. Going the Base I/O without the V-Mount and then buying a third party V-Mount like Wooden Camera seems like the way to go unless you want to sell/buy new batteries.

This is bad. I changed all my system to Vmount because of the compatibilty. Now I have to sell all my batteries and chargers?

Maybe. Maybe not. The Enduro's are the best deal on there, but it's a bummer to lose the extra 40ish watt hours that mine have.

It could still change...

Reread that FAQ. It is simply a list of ones we were able to fit test. Nothing to do with actually compatibility other than fit NOR does that mean these are the ONLY third party batteries that fit on the V-Lock Base Expander...

Thanks for chiming in Brent!

I think the worry is that people used one battery system with their previous Red's and now that doesn't work, even though the new Red uses the same universal mount. The support ticket only yielded a "Check our FAQ" after a week of back and forth. With systems like even Swit batteries not working (via Jon Betz), it's hard to know who will be fine and who will need to re-evaluate the gear they already have.

Brent beat me to it... that is only a list of those that have been "fitted" by Red. Not which batteries will actually work.
I get that...

The problem is that I have two different brands that don't work, and we've had another user report his Switronix batteries didn't work unless he was using the Wooden Camera plate.

The thing is that it is a fact now that some work and some don't. I don't want to risk my camera by testing mine knowing that it would not be covered by the warranty anymore. Or what is the risk of killing the camera by testing batteries which work like a charm on the older scarlets?

Ugo, maybe I'm reading your concerns wrong, but isn't it just a case of some batteries not being able to physically attach to the camera at all, not what they do when attached?

There has been some batteries that were unable to mount properly, but that's not my issue at the moment.

Mine is that the camera powers up and immediately says "LOW POWER" and starts a timer from about 25 seconds before it shuts itself off.

Oh, okay. Sorry Brandon, Ugo, I lost track of that issue along the way.
