  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet S35 is now...

Does anyone know how will the new HDRx sensor behave in low light?

Like Peter said, HDRx will not give you any better low light performance. However, I've been hearing from people who have seen the Epic in person that it looks clean at ISO 6400.

HDRx

HDRx

Thanks for the answers. I'm looking forward to see what these cameras can do!

In soem sense it will give you better low light - because you can jack-open your f-stop or remove ND or add light, and the darker areas of your image can have more light without at the same time worrying about burning your highlights.

In a sense what is most impressive about the Nevada Barn Clip is the low light performance within the barn, made possible by HRDx-protected highlights.

I have no doubt that better on-cam processing will also give us even better Mx performance than now. The snsor may be teh same as R1, but equally important to IQ is everything behind that sensor.

That depends what you mean by low light performance. Anything that facilitates revealing more DR in certain low light situations can be said to be increasing "low light performance". And " a clean iso 6400 with HDR" is going to be one hell of a low light performance.

Jim, I know you aren't trying to hit a price point but...
For my money, literally, an EPIC-S would be a great choice at 10,000UKP. That's currently $15,000. I work that out as a Panasonic AF101 plus cinedeck with a nice onboard monitor too. If I can get all that functionality from RED for the same price, I'm all RED.

Good luck on the next few months guys.

Well. I guess it depends on how you define competitor. If by features and functions, it never was a competitor to the high end still cameras. That’s not to say it couldn’t be used in place of those cameras. If by price, we simply don’t know yet. Wildly speculating on its actual price is pretty pointless, and it depends which camera you are choosing to compare it to. Compared to $6k still camera? It may still be very competitive in price if high quality moving images are of importance to your needs.

Well, to me it was. That would be the camera to use.

Well it was $7k for the body only, but that was never a functional camera. By the time you add modules to complete it it would have been at least $10k before lenses. But it is also primarily a raw motion camera, therefore much more powerful than required for stills only, and the price reflects that.

That price? I and partners cannot go. A couple of units for 3D means double price.

For those who can't spend hours everyday to follow this mad forum, Is it possible to have an update of the actual situation or the Scarlet please?

Is the Scarlet 2/3 8x zoom going to be release finally? If yes could you give a date and price range please?

Same question for the Scarlet S35 or now i guess "Epic light" or whatever name the concept became....

Would be usefull to have a place in this forum where everyone could look at the actual roadmap without having to browse hundred of post...

Is it the latest "most accurate" information we have for now?

"According to his predictions Epic will go on full scale production on April 2011.

Assuming RED still has Scarlet 2/3 fixed coming after Epic I think we can expect Scarlet S35 in mid-2012.

They'll probably be busy enough with Epic until September/October 2011.

I would also put my money on Scarlet 2/3 coming out only in 2012."

Jim said the fixed 2/3" is right on the heels of Epic. My guess that would put it around NAB 2011: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?p=682763#post682763

Jim says here you will see the Epic-S (S35 Scarlet) in 2011: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?p=685183#post685183
