  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet S35 is now...

As of now... we are considering:

EPIC-S (from the old Scarlet name... or STANDARD model)
EPIC-X
EPIC-M (for monster machined)

Does that work for everyone? :-)

Jim

How about

EPIC-S
EPIC-E
EPIC-X

So yeah they'll be the Epic series S, X, M .
along with the scarlet series Z(oom) or F(ixed) etc ..

I like it. It makes it easier to describe the features to others and for them to remember later.

I'll probably say to clients that S=standard feature set, X=expanded feature set.

Although I like EPIC-M name I still think that the machined version is worthy of a special designation, like a "signature" edition.

Jim, I do have to admit, when I first saw the EPIC-M designation, I was puzzled thinking you were putting an M sensor in it. At that moment, I thought maybe you weren't yet able to produce enough MX sensors. Do you think anyone will be confused when the RED ONE's are sometimes referred to as "M" or "MX"? Or maybe I was the only one.

I'm with Terry on this. And have to admit I worry that S and X sound too similar on the telephone. Particularly the way us English and Australians slur our speech. Even in conversation, you might have the office ordering you an S by mistake.

Way back when, I thought Epic-X was a special package reserved just for Stage II customers trading in their Red Ones. Is there any distinction any longer between the Epic body the Stage II customers get, and the one anyone can get? Not that it makes a difference to me. I'm in Scarlet-land. Just curious!

Much better as long as the price for EPIC-S is about the same price as Scarlet S35 with HDRx. :yesnod:

Epic-m, Epic-x, Epic-s works well, only drawback would be for non english speakers
or phone conversations during a hectic noisy shoot
example "are you supplying the epic-s or the epic-x " the two names sound similar and
difficult to articulate or distinguish, not to mention the above phrase becomes a tongue twister
say that one three times fast!

I think that's much better!

I think Epic LT and Epic-X are better differentiators (or XL like the millennium?)

S and X sound too similar and would be too easily confused in a hectic work environment. Also calling the former Scarlet "LT" protects the Epic name as a high-end device. It makes it clear that the LT is the entry level model vs the higher capabilities of the rest of the Epic line.

Try saying Epic-S and Epic-X over the phone. They sound identical.

I like the names, but this could be a nightmare for rental companies.

Good lord! Enough with this nitpicking before Jim takes another vacation from the forum! :hand:

call it the epic sissy and paint it pink. that way all of the posers won't want to buy it and it will be easier to score for those of us who could care less about names and just want the damn camera. ;)

Oh, I'm sorry, I thought he was asking for feedback. Hang on, he was asking for feedback!

Jim famously loves listening to customers. So... X and S won't work on the phone. Try it. I did. The result was complete confusion for the listener. We had to resort to the phonetic alphabet.
