  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet S35 is now...

No matter what we do... there will be unhappy people. As long as everyone understands that we really are trying to push the industry along
I don't give a damn for the industry quite frankly, but for my own.

No matter what we do... there will be unhappy people. As long as everyone understands that we really are trying to push the industry along and deliver meaningful cameras with the most capability at the best price possible, I can live with some disappointment out there.

There can always be added more features, improved some and invented others. And of course this will show in the price. It's finding that great ballance between price and specs that will determin how many cameras will be sold. That must without doubt be very tricky. Hopefully Red will make the right decision.

Lets say Im a rental company... and I dont want to cannibalize my cameras... or confuse my customers.

EPIC Line all are Fully Modular and use the same 5K M-X Sensor.

EPIC - S35 Stunning 5K Resolution up to 30FPS
EPIC - X Enjoy 5K up to 120 FPS. Frame Rates to 250FPS - Mathematically Lossless Recording
EPIC - LTD All of the Above plus Hand Machined and Extra Rugged

What is rewarding? Price increase?
No, but learning how to accept and adapt to things out of your control and finding a way around those obstacles is, from my experience, very satisfying. Much more so than just getting things your way by complaining.

It will be Epic and Epic Light (or Epic Lite if you like it more) only.

That's all folks!!!

I like it. We just have to let everyone know that "X" means higher framrates and less compression.

Sanjin, why are you wishing to cut off debate? That is totally out of character for you.

Who's complaining? I don't see other than a few bunch of the same posts always praising whatever it is they do.

Tim, "LTD" is also an abbreviation of limited. And you're suggesting it be used for the top of the line model ?????

why not epic LT and epic XT / or epic ST - epic "m" will confuse producers, they will think about the old sensor.

anyway, is there any information if it is possible to use the EPIC light together with EPIC-X in a 3D rig?

best wishes,
martin

@ Auguste Andre
Should have been more clear. At this point, was talking about my own life-transition.

Elsie,

in a way yes and of course that people are allowed to discuss as much as they can.

I'm not a MOD.

Just kidding...

But from my point the discussion has got a bit senseless just because Epic Light (Lite) is a perfect name for the camera that former known as a Scarlet S35.

Even Arri have Arricam Lite and it is so common in the industry to name the "lighter" less featured model just as a "Light (Lite)".

Than simply everybody has got a message what is going on there.

Cheers.

We're on the same page Elsie. It's an empowered mindset.

@ Sanjin,

Heh, heh, I figured you were kidding. Just was giving you a good-natured poke in the ribs.

And for the record, I am already growing used to the name Epic Light. But when I tell someone to go set up a camera in a certain, certain position and they ask "which one?" I will either say the Epic or the Slick (Epic Light). I will always think of it as the "slick" model because of its feature set which I think will cover the necessities of movie-making without the less-often used features of the Epic

Yup, its the "X" Factor :) and yet EPIC S35 still sounds badass... EPIC lite sounds like... an iphone application that is free... which means missing cool features. usually gets 2 stars from reviewers... you get the idea... its sounds weakass.

I recommend reserving the word LITE for BEERand DIET PRODUCTS... not kick ass game changing cameras.
