  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet S35 is now...

Spill the beans Sanjin.....What did you know and when did you know it! :D

G Lap,

nothing special except that is based on my pretty good analysis and that's what predictions are all about...

Great job, SJ!! :eek6:

I never understood the Scarlet naming regime anyway. It seemed too confusing. And I agree that 48 - 60fps should be included on Epic Light, of course.

Same camera, different name, just to justify a price increase. Hmm...

The names are now based on the size of the sensor. Everything that is S35 or more is called Epic. Epic light means, that it has a little bit less horsepower and thus costs less.

Scarlet is the 2/3 sensor.

Keep it coming RED - played with some RAW files a while back and never want to go back.........

I don't want to get overly hung up on names or nomenclature but as others have commented, I'd suggest re-thinking the name, "light" as it could be construed by some as being Epic "inferior" or some such. I think what you are meaning to impart is that it's light on features/performance when compared ONLY to the traditional (and more expensive) Epic brain. The LT designation, as suggested by one poster, is going in a better direction, in my opinion.

But - designating the S35 part of the Epic family (rather than Scarlet) makes perfect sense to me.

By the way, I'm not sure about "Epic light". Sounds like "War and Peace - the telenovela" or "Star Wars - Episode 1" :)
"Epilator" is also nearby phonetically... just sayin...

I'd like Epic Ruby or Epic Auburn...

Other than that a good move. I'm curious about the price for the brain... it was a long term goal (or wish or pipe dream)

I´m affraid of price increase. I really want to buy a S35 RED camera.

Hi Jim,

Thank you for your hard work,

I´m affraid of price increase. I really want to buy a S35 RED camera.
Now I don´t know if I can afford it.
I don´t need more features. Scarlet S35 specs were perfect to me. (I think Scarlet S35 was perfect for most of the people).

Best,

Juan

Jim, please don't increase the price of the new, "Epic Light" so much from what the Scarlet S35 price was.

More than 8K for the brain starts pricing it out away from ownership and into rental territory again.

Which is what everyone's trying to avoid.

I agree with the poster above, Scarlet S35 was simply perfect for the features and the price point.

I hope that the price won't increase too much. As Juan said, S35 specs were perfect also for me. If the brain costs more than 8K $, I'm not sure that I can afford a full starting kit anymore...

Please keep the price increase as reasonable as possible!

not crazy about name as i hate everything light (from beer to cigarettes!) : )

but ultimately, names aside, my hope is that it'll still be a under 10k body so i can still aspire to actually buying one (as it's been my dream cam for forever now) and keep it for a long long time...

It beats "Diet EPIC"... :biggrinjester:

If the price of the brain needs to go up, let's hope Red can come up with an advantageous "production pack" to compensate the price hike. Similar to the way the price increase was handled for the Red One. Jim has always come up with clever solutions to keep most people satisfied in the past.
