On Set the other night:

Middle of a shot, weird noise appearing in the on-camera LCD monitor. We play out the take (10-15 secs) then cut.

Go for playback, screen goes crazy/hairy/frozen/hangs.

Smell of burning/overheated circuit boards.

Shut off, power down, wait, new battery, power back up, nothing.

(call it a day on set).

Next day for fun, boot up, WILL PLAY BACK, no noise on the shot that we were shooting, but the camera will not properly allow for capture/record, it goes to another hair/crazy/screen.

Thoughts?

I would try reseeding/cleaning contacts of all attached modules - Side SSD, Side Handle, anything. I would also try holding the power button for at least 20 seconds so it can essentially restore the settings. Also, try powering off the wall as opposed to your battery.

You can also re-flash the firmware too if none of the above things work.

Very weird and something I've never seen or heard of before. My first thought is something got wet internally somehow.

Try what Chris recommends, but I would minimize my reboots after that and contact your Bomb Squad Rep pronto. If possible, see if you can export a log via the menus and get that to them.

Thanks Phil. Have contacted our bomb squad rep; didn't hear back unfortunately.

Hey Phil, just to let you know Brian just called and helped us sort the whole thing out. We should have it in for repair in a few days. Thanks to Brian and team.

For future reference, if you are concerned about turning your camera on but need a log file - a log file is automatically saved to media when the camera is shutdown.
