  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet does not switch to redvolt when mains power is pulled - version 3 firmware

Same issue here. Tried all different suggestions. Hopefully they can fix this in the next firmware update, though I'm guessing we're just going to have to send the SH's in. :-( At least I live close I just don't want to be without a SH for very long.

Brand new side handle today, v3 firmware updated last week with no problem, same issue. It will switch to mains power from the redvolt in the side handle but not the other way - camera just shutdown.

Just got my side handle.

If I remove the v-brick from the plate with redvolt in the camera, the camera shuts down.

BUT

If I remove the lemo cable from the v-plate with recvolt in the handle it switches over.

That makes me think it is either a firmware thing, or because my v-plate is not wired with the data wires in the lemo plug to communicate. Just the power.

Filed a ticket, the solution was for me to send them my side handle from Singapore, which meant no camera for a couple of weeks. I bit the bullet and sent it - there was indeed something wrong with the side handle, which has now been serviced / repaired and is on its way back to me.

I contacted Red support also. Sent the side handle in, a week later it came back to me working as it should. If you're having this issue I suggest contacting Red.

I'm having this issue as well and I just got my side handle this week, so my question is why did they ship me a faulty handle if they new of this issue beforehand? Why isn't this being tested before they send it out the door?

So now I'm going to have to ship the handle back to get it fixed? Scratching my head on this one.

My handle has arrived back from Red. It was repaired perfectly and is now working. The switching between power sources is great.

The Red shipment and repair was very fast.

However DHL New Zealand decided to hold the handle for almost a month! Fo no reason at all. Really appalling service there and useless communication. I will not be using DHL ever again.

So if you remove a Red Brick - not unplug the plate, just remove the Brick battery - it should switch over to the Redvolt in the handle?

Also, if you re-attach the Red Brick on to an already connected battery plate it should switch back from the Redvolt from the handle?

I'm not talking about detaching the lemo - just swapping batteries.

Same Problem here. It's pretty annoying that this is such a widespread problem, and we have to send it in at our own cost...

The problem does seem to be common, but RED sent me a prepaid FedEx slip to ship my side handle back to RMA. My cost: $2 for the box (YMMV)

I'm in Switzerland, so not really as close to RED than you. Did you just have to send the handle in, or both camera and handle?

Just the side handle was sent in. You may do well do include your location in your profile so as to avoid confusion on these types of threads.

Part of the problem for me is that the camera is a vampire - it drains the Redvolt even when the camera is off. Does that slow discharge happen when you are on the brick, or have they fixed that as well?

What about when you change bricks and the camera switches to the Redvolt momentarily, when you attach another brick does the camera disconnect again completely from the RedVolt (no vampire)?

I have not sent my side handle in for this repair, and if either of these problems remains its not worth the interruption and delay until they get it right. Switching over to a dead Redvolt is no solution.
