Scarlet Deal of a Lifetime

Yep. I'm in the same situation you're in. I got a tracking number last week and I was so stoked. When the UPS guy showed up at my door step with one medium sized box, I swore I was getting pranked. And then I wondered if the camera was a lot smaller than I remembered... Nope, it just wasn't in the box. And now I have a box full of cool Red accessories with nothing to use them on.

And I gotta tell you I sweating it a bit. Cinematography/Photography are not my full livelihood so the thought of having to turn around and sell her as I receive her has, unfortunately crossed my mind. I really don't know what I am going to do...

John,

I'm actually in a similar boat. I had a RED ONE reservation (#1500s) and actually used that deposit to help defray this cost, then I learned it wasn't going to be ready in time to offset the rental cost of this upcoming shoot (Friday), and was like "Ehhhh" and have been picking up used accessories here and on eBay... I'm a litttttle worried. I was thinking about entering the rental market, at a discounted price, as much as that will likely inspire rage. But even a few hundred a day would be better than $0.

Phil

So would it really be so bad if one were to purchase multiple of these Scarlets and sell one to offset the cost of the one they were planning on keeping? I don't think there's anything wrong with being opportunistic in this case. Whatever helps reduce your overall investment is fine by me.

Disappointed that I barely missed this deal.

If anyone has a used Scarlet that they'd like to sell or from this deal please let me know! =)

Out of sheer blind chance I was lurking on REDuser mere moments after this deal was posted. I'd had it in my mind that I wanted a Scarlet ever since that day last November, but I had been attempting to suppress my urges to purchase after taking a long and sorrowful look into my moth-eaten wallet.

Of course, this deal broke my resolve. Trigger pulled.

As of this morning I now have one almost-new Scarlet brain sitting in a box at home, and I feel pretty good about that. Of course, I don't have anything else. All I need to do now is save up for a few more peices of kit...... I'm sure you can sympathise.

Likewise, I can certainly sympathise with everyone posting above about how they entered into this hastily - so did I. I'm going to be broke for awhile, but I regret nothing!

One thing: If this bullet time project ends up to be something tasty - I'd be rather interested to know which frame was shot on my Scarlet. Purely from a curiosity point of view. Hopefully someone took notes on which camera serials shot which frames, and can post at a later date.

P.S. First post. Feels good.

Welcome to the family Maurice.. look forward to seeing your first shot.

I too feel the sting of being set back a bit financially, but I think to myself - it's cheaper than Reducation-x and at the end you get to keep a camera you can potentially make money from.
Makes me feel a bit better...

Its worth the feeling. I started a post about what to purchase on a tight budget and got some flack for buying it.

Didn't phase me since I get to express my creative ideas with this leap of....

Hi Jarred,

Ordered mine 10 days ago and still haven't been charged. Wondering if anyone else is in the same boat.

Ordered a week ago and still waiting, but can't wait till it ships! I've worked with the Epic and Scarlet many times and am excited to finally have my own RED camera. Thanks for the awesome discount.

Same here ... ordered the same day Jarred posted about the deal ... but I'm in contact with my bomb squad rep ... there was a problem with my credit card verification .. so I wire transfered the money yesterday ... now waiting for the transaction to reach my RED account

I can't wait to have owned one rather than having it rented. Raad are living in Dubai? which place are you residing? Just drop a note here once you got yours. Goodluck...

Sadly, the offer is now closed http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?87124-Scarlet-Deal-of-a-Lifetime/page31 (ended 17th October).

There were only a limited number of battletested Scarlets offered. They've all gone now.

To order a Scarlet at normal new price, go to http://www.red.com/store/cameras?f=...Y2FtZXJhBjsARlsGSSIMU0NBUkxFVAY7AFQ=&sort=&q=

PS. First time RED buyer long time renter. Excited to have a Scarlet to finally call my own!

Yup. Same boat, but I know they are working hard to get them processed. 11 days ago, a new RED
was out of my budget, was aiming for a Blackmagic for its raw capabilities, (but my buddy's BM has been on pre-order since day 1)
but either way, have been renting REDS and still have access to those if I need them.
Then I happened to stumble across the "deal of a lifetime" thread, and, bam, suddenly, will have access , soon, to a much more amazing tool for me
and on a full time basis. My feeling is that it is coming real soon. So am channelling my inner Zen. My accessories are already on the way. Bumped up my delivery from ground to overnight, for the cam tho..ground takes about a week for me, from CA to NYC. Is exciting to see others getting their cams, and exciting for me, knowing it will be here soon!! Cheers!

Words cannot express the delight you will all feel once you begin working with R3D footage. Congratulations to all and welcome to a special place where "Obsellence is now Obsolete" (tm Jim Jannard) I can vouch for that. RED leaves nobody behind unless you jump ship. Stay on the ship it's a beautiful ride!
