The BMD camera looks fantastic in a lot of ways, but yeah- it's NOT like shooting on any RED cam at all, and once you've worked with R3Ds, anything else feels not so fun. Part of it's the workflow being all figured out, part of it's getting 4K+, but a lot of it's the R3D tech- didn't Jarred or Jim once say that RED's secret weapon is the way R3Ds are encoded (REDcode)? I think with the BMD you'll mostly shoot in ProRes log (which is very, very good!) because straight up Raw is a pain for most projects (your film or high-end project may be exceptions).
BTW, I don't think the battery issue will matter all that much on the BMD, because you can use Vmounts with it, too. For me, the crop issue does matter. And the lack of REDcode. And I'm used to shooting in 4K... and frankly, I don't like learning multiple cam tech to do my job. A couple standard tools saves me time and ensures quality.
