  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SCARLET ANNOUNCEMENT - Feedback

you can screw the Scarlet right into the Manfrotto quick release plate, but I use this with our QR plate as the Manfrotto slide thing is a bit clunky.

http://www.red.com/store/rail-components/product/quick-release-platform-bolt-on

Sorry to sound dumb, just want to really understand : e.g. I'll get the "DSMC Quick release platform pack" and screw the whole thing on top of the existing manfrotto dovetail plate or do I exchange the existing manfrotto plate with something else?

I can't believe all the complaining and entitlement here lately over the new release.m I guess my expectations where to expect nothing, but it will be wild when it comes out and it will be better and more progressive than anyone else is doing in the same price point. Thanks again guys. And to all the people who feel shafted, these guys need to do what they need to do, but you can bet that over the next ten years you see some crazy stuff, like pov cams, a smaller version of epic and/or Scarlet, and much, much more. You can't live on their timeline, as it is their show, and they need to do what they need to do to run the business and be in a position to lead. I would recommend finding a camera in your means that is closer to what you expected from RED. Shoot with that for now and enjoy the fun of making movies(it is the coolest job in the world). I am sure the camera you wanted will be made by someone someday, but don't sit around and wait for it and feel sad. Life is too short for that and there are way too many options.

All complaining and upset at RED should read this. Well said Todd. Did you guys order any?

+1 indeed

I guess it's just makes me a little bit disappointed that after all the work Jim and his team done they have to read all the whining.
They delivered a special and very passionate little lady and she has all the capabilities to change the entry high end market.
Canon advertised their announcement as historic, but frankly, the one that will make history is painted battleship gray. We'll see that in the 2013 festival season.
I'll bet anyone a fine dining in London...

Haha, let's see what happens if we complain on a Sony discussion board..... oh wait, they don't have one. Regardless, even if they did, many have over the years complained about very valid issues (on their $60,000-90,000 cameras) to no avail. Hence the acronym S.O.N.Y. was coined; Soon Only Not Yet. So, as much as some might wish for different specs, prices, availabilities, and options, what is happening is actually quite cool. I am definitively NOT one of the fan boys here, but we all have to admit that Red has done more than just bring a couple cameras to the market, they changed the market for the better and forced others to adapt.

Now that's enough of back patting, let's go shoot something now. :)

Hi all,

Placed an order for the Scarlet X Ai Canon Mount package, couldn't be more excited. Have ordered from RED before but never this big a purchase.

Made deposit on a credit card, when my bomb squad rep contacts me can I designate the remainder to be paid with a checking card or wire transfer?

I imagine this is a standard request but I'm erring on the side of caution. Don't want to cause any hiccups in the process. Long live RED!

Thanks guys,
Drew

Wow, thanks to the Red team for their hard work and amazing camera announcement. Woohoo! I have finally finished reading all 72 pages of this thread.

I will most likely be making an order for the scarlet with the Ti mount today, but I have a couple of questions that I haven't seen answered.

If I get the base production package with the upgraded Ti mount will it ship on or around November 17th? If I decide to make my own production package will I get the 5" touchscreen as quickly as if I ordered the base production package? Will the 5" touch screen be available when the Scarlet X's ship?

Here is a couple of non order related questions:

With the Dragon upgrade coming next year, I understand that the money to upgrade a Scarlet will be more than that to upgrade an Epic but how will the power be between the two? Will the Epic still be more powerful and offer more fps or resolution options than a Scarlet with the Dragon upgrade? When will stage four deposits be taken for the Epic X?

Thanks,
Mike

I see it as an attempt to try and save the promised high fps, but below 1080p I don't really see it making sense in a pro camera.
Jarred, Jim? What's your take on 1K?
patrick

How about this: mount the camera 90 degrees and shoot some real sexy 120fps elements for compositing. Used in this configuration, you essentially have 1024 lines of horizontal resolution to play with. My test is going to be exploding apples. How about them apples, by the way?

Exactly. There are plenty of professional applications for some high speed 1k footage!

correct... all the cases for the Epic will fit the Scarlet.

Great! One more thing I will need. Would it be possible for Red to either remove 'Epic' from the title or in some other way indicate that it's fully compatible with Scarlet-X?

most of the cases will come in a Scarlet Branded option.

Well, 3K for $3K was a nice dream while it lasted, all the way up to 4K for $6K or so. Congratulations, RED, for keeping my attention and having me check back here almost daily for three years.

I have only myself to blame for believing in price points that were apparently pulled out of thin air.

Keep up the great work. I'll be renting RED some day; probably never buying, however much I'd like to.

Bye!

Not sure if this has been asked anywhere else, but will any of the scarlets be getting name plates like the other red cameras in the past? Love that :)

perfect!! any idea when this option will be available?

Also Jarred, I love seeing the assembly line pics! You should post more if you can.
I don't know if there would be a reason you can't or not haha.

I placed my order a little while ago. There is no feeling in the world like the one when you get an email confirmation that the camera that you have been waiting for a long time will soon come.

Thanks again to all the great people at Red for making a great set of cameras.

I was wondering if there would be an option for Scarlet-x owners to trade in for an Epic when we're ready (have the money).
