SCARLET ANNOUNCEMENT - Feedback

I want my S 35 lenses to be true to their form.

Will not be. The question though is by how much.

My math skills aren't up to par... can someone help me out? Crop factors for each res?

I need to know this info too. Are we saying that we're using like a 4/3 sensor size to shoot motion? I hope not, I am hoping the information is just not using as many of the pixels or something. I want my S 35 lenses to be true to their form.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about... The sensor in Scarlet is a 5K sensor.. that is LARGER than an S35 frame.

When cropped to 4K.. it is very close to the same size as an S35 frame.

I wonder this myself. If we have 4K at 24fps, how much of the sensor is cropped on the Scarlet? 20%?

Since I am too lazy to find the original post, here is a chart created by Steven Hilder showing sensor size and the various crop sizes.

Thanks so much Jarred, you made my day!!!! I feel honored to be even responding to your comment. I bought my Scarlet X last evening. First Red cam even though I've been whoring this site for so long.

Didn't think the side handle was in stock? I'll check that out and yes batteries are next, but I'm good to go running cord if i need to while I wait for mobility.

What I like best about how the Product line has evolved is that the customer gets to determine both the top end of performance and the top end in price and from there down to the base level of performance there is no loss in capability. The scale of price/performance only increases and there are no capability gaps between the two platforms; Scarlet and Epic downstream. This is something the previous versions of Scarlet 2/3" could not handle. Its really a nice freebie that Red gives the new Scarlet owners. I always liked the idea of the Scarlet Fixed, but the two platforms were really different animals in some ways. In a sense, the Scarlet fixed was stillborn into a world rapidly moving beyond 2K. Any credible competitors must begin their thinking with the assumption that we already live in a 4K environment. Well done, Jim, Jarred and Red Team!

Dear RED Team im very very proud of you, again.
Feels like 4 years ago, when I got my first RED-One.
Great new line-up. Great price. Great package.

You bet Canon today by far. Now bring out the Redmote Pro too and you will sell an other 10 thousand scarlets in an minute. :biggrin5:
I know Jarred, not Tim and his Redmote Pro again...
I'm like Toia and playback, hehehe.

No really, great day, congrats. Every swiss filmmaker I know is stoked right now. And I'm like, I told you so....

Cheers to all of you.
Tim

Changeable filter tray?

Yup... showed a prototype at NAB. It was sidetracked a bit as we needed to redesign the filter holder to reduce some flare, but will be out in a few months.

Jarred
With the scarlet X update. can we shoot at 3 or 4k at 2.1 or 2.4 aspect ratio? and maybe 60frame per second at 3k?

Wait. What are the dimensions of the actual sensor? I thought it was an S35 sensor... meaning that at full res or 5k... it's S35. Now I'm legitimately confused.
