  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet and Epic BUILD 4 BETA

Thanks Matt! Great feature!

Many thanks for the addition of pre-roll. That's going to save us nature videographers from a world of missed opportunities and huge clips where nothing ends up happening. Hopefully the rain will take a break long enough for me to try it out soon.

I am also having this freeze problem while bootup. The 1/2 screen is white, while the other 1/2 is kind of blackish. I tried: 1. Factory Reset, install a fresh ver. of 4.0.3., then 2. installed ver. 3.3 and then again 4.0.3. Same thing. I tried to set Monitor Frequency from 60 Hz to 30 Hz. When I boot up, it shows again Frequency 60 HZ (Actually 59.94 Hz. The only way I can get a video on the Monitor is unplug the cable from the camera and plug it in again. (Exactly the same problem I had with an earlier ver of Firmware -I think, 3.0. It was solved with later updates.
Is there any other option I could try? A bit complicated to unplug after every boot the cable (it doe not work when I boot up and plug in the cable after).
Otherwise a GREAT update! Something we all have been waiting for and I think, it is a wonderful Christmas Present to all of us!
Thank you for that.

1 of the many compelling appreciative, hands down best experiences about RED as a company.

THIS SHIT.
Breakthrew Firmware updates. making ones camera NEW again for FREE. Better, faster, stronger.

Its just 1 of the reasons the EPIC kicks ALEXAS ASS. opps did i say that? YA.

Thanks for this one guys, looking forward to the "FLIP" option and other goodies. Keep up the great work and happy Holidays!

There are two 'layers' to what you're seeing on the monitor; the image you're capturing/previewing and then the user interface. This update allows you flip both layers vertically, and the UI interface can also be flipped horizontally (aka. mirrored). What cannot be done yet is to horizontally flip/mirror the image being captured/previewed. The description is correct but not as detailed as this. Hope that makes sense.

But the description says:
"This is useful for more unusual mounting positions of the touch screens,"
"
You can't use a monitor for anything if the frame is mirroried horizontally, can you? So you cannot mount the monitor in unusal position.

...hmm unless you are only using the monitor for surfing the menus. :)

Permanent will store the imported map as your default user cal map (and will re-program the map on camera .. which will take ~10 min)

Temporary will allow you to use the imported map as long as the camera is powered up, assuming you don't re-black shade or reset to the factory or currently stored user map. However if you power cycle, the camera will revert to the map stored in it's internal memory. This operation takes only about 15 seconds. This mode is intended as a time saver in case you have some maps stored off camera and need to shuffle through them quickly.

You know guys, I think it's time for RED to produce a wee tutorial on black shading and what you can do with it to get the best from your camera. I know black shading is dependent on exposure, and ambient temperature; should I be thinking about building a little library of different exposure/temperature calibration maps to use as required? Just what's the latitude? How far can you move from an arbitrary standard (say, 24FPS / 180 shutter / 20C) before you should consider applying a different calibration?

Thanks!

Mike

Played with speed-ramping today. Holy crap, I've only dreamed of this in a digital camera. Okay I'm at 1kws on the Scarlet going from 24 to 120m but it's an awesome feature all the same. Going to be a Raging Bull of a holiday!

Speed-ramping, lcd flip, black calib and everything is amaing! Best delayed Hanukkah gift ever!

Thanks RED team!

Wishing everybody at RED and REDUSER happy holidays and a prosperous 2013!

Cheers,
Martin

Frame averaging is excellent - I've done this in post quite a bit using either 2 or 4 frame oversampling, great to have in camera... BUT

Wouldn't it be cool to utilise the motion-conjoined HDRx style capture to keep regular motion blur?

ie. at 4x intended frame rate capture two 90deg. frames sequentially, dump two, and capture the next two. Of course I can do this in post with 360 shutter and high fps, but it takes a bit of post work to implement. Would love it in camera too :)

Love these big updates :D

So I've come across something weird. I am no longer able to use the display tools. If I select edge, video, or exposure settings ( I think these are what is available there I'm not in front of the camera) but basically the tools to allow focus peaking no longer do anything. i can click on them and nothing happen. View RAW still works, so does magnify, but otherwise they do nothing. I also noticed that if I try to change the red gamma or red color, I can change it, but nothing visually happens on the screen. Yes I have checked to make sure I am not viewing RAW. Can anyone else verify this with this build. I have rebooted several times and same results.

Just reaching out to see if this is a common phenomena with the new build. I'm getting this intermittently when changing resolution or switching to 1:1. The monitor fades and dies out over a few seconds, everything goes, the UI as well as preview image. It recovers and normal operation can continue thankfully, but for a moment it looks like the cam has lost all power.

I'm running on Scarlet.

There is a 'Tools' checkbox on the Monitor Tab of the Monitor Control Dialog for each monitor type. This checkbox allows you to control which monitors are affected by the various false color modes. Please check if it is set for the monitor you are using

+1

Experiencing the same on my Scarlet.

+1 on needing drop frames ... Enjoying the build, but without the drop frame modes this feature isn't usable since i can't maintain my 180 degree shutter and I will have to continue doing this in post (which is not very efficient).
