  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet + Adobe

To each there own, the way you feel about PP is the way I feel about Final Cut pro, but it's ok ppl like different things and that is what makes us individuals. PP is just not for us we tried and didn't like it we felt handcuffed =( like I said ppl just like different things =)

Oh for sure. No hard feelings. I was just trying to find out what some liked about FCP X. I love FCP 7 and PP.

You could always build a Hackintosh Kalani

I'm looking into that :)

I found a guy on CL here in Los Angeles built me a 12core, 24GB Ram, 120GB SSD, 2TB RAID beast of a Hackintosh for 1/5th the cost of a Mac Pro with similar specs.

I was always a PC guy that built my own set ups, but Mac OS just works better. Never had a driver compatibility issue or any BSoD lock ups like I had in Windows 7 <knocks on wood>.

Now that you can build Macs with PC parts the choice seems rather obvious to me.

Also, After Effects is the key to the universe and Premiere Pro is the keyhole. (is keyhole a word? -ed: yes it is. thank you google)

My thought is exactly. I do alot of graphic work and for me this camera has the ability to shoot an insanely high resolution image for compositing materials in Real time space. After effects is my left leg and premiere pro could become my right with how universal the workflow is.

I can raise my hand. I'll be using PPro. I've used a lot of different editors and find PPro to be one of the best out there right now. I can't speak to FC as I've never used it because I detest Macs (no offence to Mac people, they're just not for me). Personally I was sad when EDIT went the way of the dinosaur, but that was a long time ago and I've pretty much stuck with Premiere since. I also like how Abode has been on top of supporting RED, though I don't have any practical experience there. I like AVID as well but I think Adobe's got them beat right now with CS5 integration alone, even though I've always liked how easy it is to get to Pro Tools from AVID. I will have to upgrade both computer and software for Scarlet or downconvert for offline and maybe rent a suite to online as I'm pretty out of date right now.

Right now up to the GTX580 from Nvidia works, I was planning on building a system with the 590 and use PPro- is anyone using this card? or should I hold off until it's fully supported?

hmm

hmm

You need 5.5 not 5.03 to run it I am assuming, right? Thanks

PPro and CS5 suite eventually, though I have been dabbling with the Lightworks beta too. For us poor guys RCX-pro for free and Lightworks with high end codec support for $60/yr is very enticing. Works with aftermarket AE plugins like Boris FX and others too.

Sticking with PC's since I build my own. Have nothing against Macs though.

Count me among the FCPX fans. I just cut a short on it and was really thrilled with how much time it saved me. Personally, I think the secret to making it work is to be willing to invest time in "re-learning" your approach. Before I started the project, I ran through training videos from both Ripple and MacProvideo. Even at that, I learned a ton while using it and will certainly approach my next project even a little differently based on what I have learned already. It is certainly not 100% yet but I believe it will keep improving and I plan to stay on top of it as it does. Doesn't do R3Ds natively... yet. I think it will at some point but until it does, I think the RCX -> ProRes approach will be fine. Not expecting too many folks to agree but.. well, so what. :-)

Was Avid until Red and now I'm Premiere. Still don't like some of the way that Premiere does things but the pros far out way the cons

Yes in other words!!

PP. I had thought several months ago I would probably become a FCPX user.
I was wrong. As others have said, AE is very important to me. So the PP workflow advantage to AE was a clear decider.
RED + ADOBE.... it just seems to all make sense.

Is anyone enjoying the benefits of Dynamic Link? I'm looking to upgrade shortly to Suite shortly.

I've been a Mac boy my entire Audio Engineering career, 11 months into Videography I find myself considering a custom built PC (that will never have an ethernet chord attached to it, ever!).

I love Mac, have since I was younger, pushed on to family, colleagues, yet found myself this month slightly annoyed the quote of $15,000+ for a box, looking to make the switch, a long list of production houses and movie credits are helping me see that the right PC is as robust as MAC as long as it's net free.

It's a scary place to be, but until Mac reconsider their outrages prices I think I'm forced to make the switch at this point in time.

Dynamic link is a real time saver that has cut down on the amount of rendering I do. Also, file management is easier because all of your assets are linked in your Premiere bin when you hop over to your other CS5 apps, updating seamlessly whenever changes are made.

I haven't tried it yet, but Dynamic Link + Audition is now available on Mac which means you could import your Premiere sequence and mixdown into 2.0 or 5.1- nifty!

Also, Kacey, I spent less than $3k for my Hackintosh and it flies...I wonder what kind of setup I could come up with for $15k though. +1 on no network card, though. The youtubes have eaten away at many of my creative hours through the years.

I use Final Cut Pro Studio 2 for some things now and then, but for the most part it is Adobe Creative Suite for me these days.

Vegas Pro 11 works superb with Scarlet footage (Lion). Real-time full-res playback on mainstream computers!
