  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet + Adobe

What do you love about the Interface and Design of it? That was the worst for me...Have they said anything about bringing in the ability to work with .r3d's?

FCP X have really a Nice & user friendly interface. I am a professional 3d Animator / Motion graphic artist. In past i tried to learn editing but PP & FCP 7 interfaces are ugly & uncomfortable. I prefer to do it in AE (for 30sec to 1min titles).

For example:-

Before Iphone I used to hate nokia multimedia fones. They have tone of features But it was hard to get to them via ugly interface . Then iphone came (might have some basic things missing like copy paste) but it changed the way fones used to be. Simple as that

--- Did you try to use FCP X just for a day or for even one project ?
--- Everyone have its own choice FCP X make me love to editing video --- :D

Whether PP is a good choice depends on what you are using it for.

If you're bashing out 1080p to Vimeo then FCX could work for you. If you are delivering to cinema, broadcast or Blu-Ray or need graphics or audio solutions then CS5.5 could be the better choice. If you need to share your workflow with other professionals then Avid is the way to go. The smart choice though, is to buy and learn all three...

Have Premiere pro CS5.5 (Adobe Creative Suite Cs5.5 Production Premium) and are very happy.

No problems, does what it should!

Yes on Premiere Pro. Upgraded to Master Suite from Design Premium to learn video editing with my Canon XL2. Stumbled onto RED. Now saving for Scarlet. Very happy to have stumbled into this when I did. Upgraded to CS5.5 and I can work on editing with actual R3D files!

Raising my hand here too - Given the announcement of Scarlet, Ive decided to migrate from the DSLR world and run with the red workflow. Had CS5 already, and this just makes it easy since there's a preset for everything, and Scarlet should be running the same codec as Epic/One (or so Ive heard).

I have never strayed from Premiere Pro and it certainly has paid off when it comes to working with Red material. Even at 4k.

I just stick to FCPX,....oooh wait, that ain't going to work :) (yet)

Might be a noob question and ask before but:
If I assume the RAW files on the Scarlet are the same as the Epic, would I be able to edit real-time in Adobe Premiere? I-mac 3.1 GHz i5 8GB DDR3 no red-rocket and stuff.

I don't understand this premiere pro campaign against fcp x. 1.) Just because fcp x is user friendly and different doesn't mean it's any less pro.. 2.) Only like 2 percent of the actual industry we mean big time movie houses use pp and no big time director will use Sony Vegas sorry, the industry leader is avid! I have used pp, avid, and final cut pro x and to tell u the truth I have edited faster and eiser with fcp x and avid then I ever have with pp pro but that's just me. Remember just because something is different or user friendly or doesn't meet up to ur expectations doesn't mean u should hate on that product and call it non pro, despite the fack that fcp x looks like imovie doesn't mean it's not pro in fact I have been able to edit with much more easier and faster because of fcp x features like the magnetic timeline and audition and audio sync but once again that is just my opinion also fcp x will keep coming out with updates that will make it even better and better, but just my opinion , no hard feelings =) P.s. Final cut Pro x also can work with 4k files I don't mind transcoding a bit =)

I have a question about the integrated encoders in CS5.5

Is the mainconcept H264 encoder of sufficient quality for blu-ray delivery? Or should I export 1080p DnxHD, Cineform and use an external encoder?
For DVD I use Tmpgenc but I´m new to bluray...

All Day and Night! Love it!

Dynamic Link on CS5 was a great time saver.

About to upgrade to CS5.5 MS next week and I heard its even faster with tons more built in to PP alone.

I can't comment on any other platforms.

Red lead me to Adobe due to no intermediates i.e. Prores.

It works so well that I never had a desire to try anything else.

WE fell in love with Avid first time we used it and studios will hire someone with Avid experience more often than ppl who use PP, sorry to say but if my resume says avid experience We would get the job over someone that only uses pp, a studio that uses avid will not spend the time and money to teach that person to use avid so if you truly want to be professional go get avid and start cutting on it because that is the industry leader not PP or Final Cut and especially not imovie or Sony vegas LOL=) We luv u all this is just our opinion stated with some facts =)

I'd have to disagree, it's odd, having used PP, Avid and FCP, I hear all the time that there is "this" standard or that, but in my humble experience, they all are used, they all are hired upon, they're also farily interchangable. Most of the time, I'd say it's your work that gets you hired or passed over, not your system preference. JUST my opinion.

Also, I'm from CO and L.A.

We have family that has worked for Stereo D and Weta and other 's also my cousin has been woking on the newest Avengers movie and all we are stating is the facts yes ur talent will be what gets you your Job, but sorry to burst your bubble but for all the pro company's we have worked for and our family doing work for some of the newest big budget movies PP is never use nor is it interchanged=( This is what we have seen and heard from different pros in the business so don't crucify us =)

Have to agree with Steven...

I don't think I've ever been turned down because I don't specifically use AVID regularly. Most the time, like myself, they'll have multiple editing suites available to me. I honestly rarely see AVID. Most are Final Cut Pro, and thats between LA (Hermosa and Culver) and Denver/Boulder, CO.

Well let's agree to disagree then because I don't know what production houses you have worked for but all I know is we have never seen pp used for studio production at the caliber I was previously stating, we have seen final cut Pro but avid is the one we have come across the most never PP. We agree to disagree it just like certain productions hire ppl with lightwave experience and some studios only hire Mya experience, same as with editing no hard feeling sir we luv u all =)
