  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet 2/3" Fixed @ CES

Ted really needs to polish the elevator speech highlighting the tech coolness that is Scarlet Fixed. He also accidentally said T4 rather that T2.6.

This is what I think is best about Scarlet Fixed:
- Extremely low noise, even at high ISO (3200+)
- Genuine HDR videography and photography (16-18 stops of Dynamic Range) Huge!
- 4.5 megapixel Still Grabs (3072 x 1620) This is cool for photographers.
- Native files are RAW
- Even though it is a fixed lens, the lens is 35mm equivalent of 28mm-224mm
- f2.4 Aperture throughout the zoom
- 120 FPS with ramping (150FPS burst)
- 5inch touch auto focus LCD
- 6 lbs. - workable weight for even lower end stabilizers
- All for only $6K. -- 2 for 1... 6K for 3K

Here body only means Scarlet camera with fixed lens without LCD, cable, REDMOTE and probably battery is also not included in that price...

So it nothing has to do with a Scarlet interchangeable lens body only model...

Hope this helps...

I could be wrong Sanjin, but my understanding is that the Fixed includes all of those things (LCD, cable, REDMOTE, battery, CF MEDIA SLOT) for around $6K. The 5" LCD has been upgraded permanently now, so the price may change some, but it comes with the LCD and REDMOTE, as best as I understand. Ready to shoot, out of the box... just add CF Media.

Here is an old link as to what is included in the 2/3 Fixed. The price went up $1K since then to add HDRx™™™™ and Jim just said the 2.8" LCD is now 5"...

Fair enough. Clarity is always important.:wink5:

21 pages and basically... no new news (like release date) or footage here yet?

Well, to be fair this post existed to announce REDs presence at CES. It wasn't meant to be a major information thread, I don't think.

And there has been some news/updates:
Oh, and for those looking for the merit in this thread, here's something of a summary:

This list, of course, pertains to the Fixed 2/3" Scarlet.

- No more 2.8" Touchscreen.

- F2.4 is the maximum aperture on the fixed lens.

- Package price is still undergoing review. It is expected to be "in the same ballpark".

- Side handle battery is currently lasting about an hour of mixed standby/recording, powering the brain, redmote, and 5" LCD.

- Menu structure still changing.

- HDMI, no HD-SDI.

$6,000 for the body only?

Where did you get that number Sanjin?

OK, I'm confused, I missed the live stream. Did say Ted say the body alone would be around $6000, or is Sanjin inaccurate?

Sounds to me that it’s more like $6k for the configuration he’s running around with: Scarlet Fixed, Side handle, CF side module, 5” touch LCD, REDmote, battery… but he’s quick to mention they are still working out the details, so I think it’s important to keep our cool and not speculate too too much, which I just did…:cornut:

lol, I hope so!

But to be honest, it's such an amazing camera, I'm not complaining as long as the kit is below $10K

I really hope Ted mis-spoke or Sanjin mis-quote. $6000 for 'body only' was never ever mentioned to date and I've been following close - real close, believe me.
In fact there has been no official price set since the arrival of HDRx. All Jim has said is 'price increase of $1000' and that was in relation to the ready-to-shoot-kit price of $4750.

If that is the case and it is now 6 grand body only then I'm not surprised. This is the kind of price-hike I have been afraid of (and expecting) because that raises the ready-to-shoot price to $7k or more.

Scarlet killed the videostar! Please give us a date soon! I wonder if it is a gremling inside of scarlet yet or if Ted just dont want the reporter to mess up the current settings. Ship it fast I promise to not water it after dark!
