  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Samyang 16mm f2.0 announced

It's for Low Cost Canon mount crowd.. no need to compare with the expensive and very good Zeiss 15mm 2.8 or anything else that costs more than a set of new tires. I am also curious about the Sigma 18-35 1.8, but suspect loose AF mechanics and not liking that it lacks a manual iris.

Matt do I have something to cure those ills ;)

And, BTW, I wouldn't associate plastic lenses with the term "solid feel" in the same sentence...;)

take my comment with a grain of salt.

yes Ive experienced the complete line RPP lenses at work (RED MX).

no Ive never used any of them or any PL pro lenses or CP.2s on my Scarlet (EF-mount).

I have claimed that I am new to this game and the Rokinons IMHO are solid.

when I get big boy money then Ill buy "pro" lenses.

for now, these will do :)

The Rokinon 35 and 85 are pretty good for their money (quite some breathing on the 35, though).

But the 14mm is really crappy, IMHO, I sent it back immediately. If the 16 isn't considerably improved over it, stay away!

Interesting that you think exactly the same as I do about the 14mm. Got it and used it once, and never used it again. Surprised about how some folks are very happy with it. I never got another Rokinon. So for me the 16 F2, better be a whole lot better than the 14.

Hummm. I certainly disagreed (loL).
Big money has nothing to do, Professional skill = wealth of experiences.

Why is it f2 and not f1.4. What happened to my cheap superspeed kit?

Anyhow I'll buy one.

It just felt right to say it at the time ;)

With my experience with the Rokinons, Im pretty sure Ill be using these for a very long time.

Well, actually for those that have already purchased the Rokinon's, here is the Rokinon 16mm: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/981706-REG/rokinon_16m_c_16mm_f2_0_ultra_wide_angle.html

However, be careful not to mistake this two offerings for the Rokinon Cine Lenses as the ones I got, cause this are not cine therefor not Declicked nor do they have FF rings on Focus and iris as th eCine versions do.

The OCD in me would have preferred an 18mm t1.5. 18, 24, 35, 85 t1.5 for ~$2250?!? That'd be ridiculous. Even if the wider side performed worse, it'd be one hell of a good shit-kicker lens set... Plus when you actually *need* that kind of speed, chances are it's a fairly low-budget production that can't afford amazing glass.

I still have yet to use the 24 after Shervin warned me that it's... well... weak (to put it politely) compared to the Sammy 35 and 85 (which are honestly better in almost every way than my Nikkor AI f2 set even when wide-open).

I think everyone would be happy with that set.

+1 for a matched set of 1.5! I was playing around with time lapses on my 8mm at Grand Central the other day and wow was I clipping! I have the need...the need for speed!

I use it all the time on my Epic - no issues and it's an awesome lens. It replaced my Tokina 11-16mm. I don't know if I just have a great copy, but it's definitely sharper than the Tokina.

Have anyone tested this 16mm lens on Epic and/or dragon yet? How much will it cover? :)
