The English language needs an HDRx mode to describe just how insanely overjoyed Sam was yesterday. I got to witness the unboxing firsthand - and seriously the look in his eyes defied description, overflowing normal concepts of joy and ending up with OHMYGODWOWGEEZGAAAAH. Mixed with awed reverence. And many good words for the Red team.

That Epic is similarly indescribably fantastic. But I will try.

The thing is so darn light and compact that you can shoot anamorphic handheld... with one hand. The user interface is a huge quantum leap forward. Yes, 5K full frame at 96FPS is awesome, yes HDRx is awesome...

But the most important thing I think is that every component of this camera, has been re-thought, honed and optimized for the benefit of YOU THE FILMMAKER.

If they could make it easier to use, they did so. If they could make it better, they did so.

After they finished doing that, they made it smaller and lighter. And then more awesome.

I can't believe this is just "version 2" of the camera body and user interface design - this feels like version 5. The touch-screen LCD is lovely and the ergonomics are first rate. There are assignable buttons everywhere and all sorts of cool things easily accessible in the menu. The camera has become an insanely intuitive and compact, high performance tool. I'd compare it to a race car but I'd suspect the Epic is more reliable

Funny thing was - when we went off to shoot we kept thinking we'd forgotten something - being used to the RED ONE you keep getting a weird feeling now you're only carrying a fraction of the weight around!

BTW, Sam, I think your thread set the "greatest number of RED folks spontaneously posting" record RED loves you tons - but you love them right back. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy - still, it's awesome that they care as much about the good-hearted indie operator as they do the Peter Jacksons of the world.

Thanks so much for the chance to play with the Epic. Hope to get to do so again soon - unless of course someone rents your cam for a vast pile of money and you don't see it for the next 6 months! That'd be fine too - though they'd better shoot something good with it!

It's been crazy, the last few days.... But, now that I have minute, I've been having a blast with my "M", and plotting a few outings, for the next few days. Should be Really Fun! Pics on the way... The camera is........ awesome. Like my buddy Brook said, you have to experience it for yourself to Really get it.

Now that my brain has landed back on planet earth, I have to try to catch up here...
